-Breaking the rules
The music was at full blast and the crowd got bigger as they danced to the ear piercing beats. Rose couldn't hear herself think. The noise was just too loud and she couldn't hear anything Sarah was saying. Sarah had to mention it thrice and Rose had to lip read in order to understand what she was saying.
"Are you okay!" asked Sarah and Rose nodded her head. Her head felt too heavy for her body like an apple on a stick.
"I don't think I feel so good" said Rose. It felt as if the room was spinning around her and her eyes became sensitive to the lights. Her eyesight was blurred and caused double vision. She couldn't move herself. Her body was immobile. Around her everyone was dancing. Two people looked like four and four people looked like eight. She wasn't quite sure what she was seeing. All she did was sit on the couch and was completely confused about why she felt this way. She didn't drink alcohol. All she had was punch. Then it hit her. The punch probably had alcohol in it. You couldn't drink anything at a teenager's party unless you brought your own. Everything was spiked.
"I think I need some fresh air" said Rose and tried lifting herself up with great difficulty. Sarah helped her up to her feet.
"You go ahead and I'll get you some water"
The door seemed so far in her vision. She felt sick to her stomach. She doubted that she'd ever make it to the door. She bumped into several people and furniture as she made her way out. Eventually after what seemed more than a lifetime she was on the front porch. Her face felt heated and she was starting to lose balance. Rose felt dizzy and held onto the wall for support. Her breathing increased and her mouth was watering.
"Oh no" Rose cried. She could feel it at the back of her throat and she knew it would be impossible to swallow back down. It hit the ground and spattered all over the porch.
"Oh my god Rose" came Sarah running.
"Did you drink? Never mind. Have some water"
Rose gulped it down in one breath. The water soothed the burning irritation in her throat and stomach.
"My hero" said Rose and Sarah laughed.
"Hey what are you looking at!" said Sarah to the couple standing behind them starring in disgust.
"I told you I don't belong here" said Rose as she sat down on the front steps of the porch inhaling fresh air. She felt better than what she did seconds ago. As much as she tried to fit in she couldn't. Her life was so different from this. At her seventeenth birthday party they had champagne and caviar. Everyone was elegantly dressed and came by invitation. She was even on the front page of a magazine the next morning. Sarah begged her to accompany her to this party. A real teenage party without any rules. She wanted the life of a normal teenager but she knew it was impossible.
"Do you think someone caught that on camera?" asked Rose and Sarah laughed.
"I think you were lucky this time. How are you feeling?"
"Better but still like crap. I think I'm gonna get a cab home"
"Alright I'm coming with you"
"No please don't Jason is waiting for you inside. Go and have fun"
Sarah looked at her with hesitating eyes. They were best friends and they would do anything for each other but she knew how much Sarah liked Jason. It would be selfish of her to ruin Sarah's night too.
"No way Rose"
"I'll be angry if you don't" said Rose in a stern tone.
"Okay but call me when you get home"
