An Invitation

I walked down the empty street, the strange absence of people making me feel uneasy. There were no cars, animals, people, anything for that matter, outside at the moment. The sky was a beautiful blue, not a cloud in the sky. The sun was shining brightly down on me, warming my face. As I approached my door, I looked around one last time to see if anyone had emerged from the silence. Still, no one was there. I turned my key in the lock and shoved open the door. There, lying on my living room floor, was an envelope. It was white, and caked in something red, almost rust colored. I picked it up hesitantly. A strong metallic scent was coming from the envelope. I figured whatever was caked thickly onto it was the source of the smell. I tore the envelope apart to reveal a small letter. The strange substance that was spread on the envelope was also on the letter, making it slightly hard to read. After a few minutes of studying the letter closely, I managed to work out what it said.
Dear Miss Rinland,
You are invited to one of the most private and enjoyable parties of the year.
Very few people are chosen to attend, and you are among those few. Dress as you please, and show up in three days around 12:00 am at the Pearl Hotel. Please do not be a second early or a second late. You are not given permission to bring friends.

~ Y.
I thought the letter was rather odd, but decided I would be attending this "party". If only a few people were selected, and I was one of them, then I certainly wouldn't turn this down. My curiousness had gotten the better of me, and so had my self centered personality.
