Lighter than snow.

Everything the boy could think of was how cold that day turned out to be. No one was expecting snow for the beginning of the winter, but just like that the city woke up to a five inches of the most powdery snow. The cars everywhere were covered by it, the trees looked like scratches on the landscape surface and the air felt more like needles than anything else.

He was nervous for being at school like he had been for the last couple of months since he met Jordan. Jordan on the outside was just a friend, but Luke knew that on the inside their friendship meant a lot more than he was ready to show. Every day after bathing finding the right clothes to wear became a fight, every day after school was also a fight against the clock waiting for the time they could meet again.

The problem was that apparently Jordan did not feel the same way.

Luke wasn’t sure if Jordan in fact didn’t feel all the butterflies in the stomach every time they were together, or the ache to kiss every damn time their faces were close. The thing was that they had gone clubbing twice and nothing had happened between the two of them. Jordan had made out with another boy in front of Luke, but not even this had been a reason strong enough to dissolve his feelings.

So that day, the very cold and snowy one Luke decided that the thing between the two of them either became something or nothing at all. While their first period went by Luke couldn’t take his eyes off his phone, after writing it a hundred times he had the perfect message: Jordan, after getting to know you I realized that life would suck without you. We need to talk.

Trembling he pressed send, but not before making a few corrections in the message leaving just the last sentence. We need to talk.

When Jordan responded looking at him, his heart raced up his throat and barely went out through his mouth. Luke looked down his phone expecting for some answer, but it didn’t buzz. He raised his head barely in time to see Jordan heading to the door. Before he could lose the courage or his legs strength he followed the boy.

“So, what do you wanna talk about?” Jordan asked leaning on the wall.

Luke tried to talk but nothing came out of his mouth so he started walking in circles. Just like his hands his entire body was shaking, his breath was uneasy and the day suddenly seemed colder.

“Luke”.

“I need to talk to you about something that I’ve got in my mind. I swear I’m trying to do so, but…” He stopped and started cursing himself silently. “I don’t know where to begin or where to get courage from”.

“Maybe if you stopped occupying your brain with all this pacing something could come up” Jordan replied getting in his way and preventing him from walking, holding him by the shoulders. Their eyes met up and Luke quickly looked to his own hands.

“Ham… Do you remember that first night we went out?” Jordan agreed with his head. “Why did you kiss that guy?”

“Because he was kinda hot and was flirting with me” He said a little unsure. “Why do you ask?”

“That night I decided to go to your friend’s birthday because it was you who was inviting me. I know we’ve been friends for quite some time now, but lately we got closer and suddenly everything turned out to be great” He paused to get some air, still not being able to look up to Jordan. “I don’t know how you are going to react, or even if you’ll want to be friends with me after today but I was going to explode if I didn’t do anything”.

Again, no answer.

“It is you the reason why I’ve became so excited about school. It is you the reason why I’m not getting a full night of sleep in weeks. It is you the fucking reason why I went to that club, I did it because I wanted to be with you”.

This time he didn’t wait for an answer.

“And to be honest, being with you is everything that I’ve been wanting to do lately”.

“Why?” He got interrupted.

“Because I find you smart, funny, and incredibly hot with that beard of yours. Because when I’m with you the time runs by like the Flash. Because we laugh, we do stupid shit that I wouldn’t do with anybody else. Because everything started to make sense since we got closer” he stopped to catch his breath again, and after a sight he met Jordan’s gaze and continued almost whispering “Because I think I’m in love with you”.

Before the other boy could do anything, Luke rushed himself and sealed his lips on Jordan’s. As quickly as it started it was over, at least that’s how it felt for them. After using all the bravery that he could gather to say everything and finish it with that kiss, Luke couldn’t look Jordan in the eyes anymore.

“Look at me” Jordan said raising Luke’s head gently with a hand on his chin. “Why didn’t you say so? Why didn’t you do anything that night? I gave you all the tips that I was into you… Why didn’t you kiss me before that guy?”

Luke’s face burned, “I didn’t think you wanted me too”.

“Why would you think that? Of course I wanted you to kiss me! I invited you for that matter!”

“Wait… What?”

“Yes!”

This time who didn’t have time to answer was Luke. Jordan took him into his arms and kissed him, first gently then with an urge of someone who waited for two months to do what he really wanted. They stayed like that for some more minutes, tasting each other, getting to really know each other. As the time came by none of them were cold, as none of them were alone anymore. Everything was said And they felt lighter than the snow.
