She was crying.
He watched from afar. He had never seen a girl cry. It hurt. He didn't like it. He wanted to make her stop crying. Tell her to smile. He couldn't. His feet were stuck. Or maybe they weren't. He just couldn't move.
She looked up.
He blinked.
She watched him.
He fidgeted.
She smiled.
He blushed. His feet moved. They carried him to her. He sat down. Stared ahead. Said nothing.
She smiled.
They stayed a while.
The sun set.
He left. He had to. He wished he could stay longer. He was scared he would never get to see her again. He stared at her.
She said tomorrow.
He said yes.

Weeks passed. They came every day.
Every day she cried.
Every day he sat.
Every day she smiled.
Every day he stayed.
He noticed the blue butterfly always clipped in her hair.
She found the red bracelet around his wrist.
They didn't say much. Didn't know anything about the other.
He wondered why she cried.
She wondered why he sat.
He saw the pain in her eyes.
She saw the fear on his face.
One day she said Farah.
That day he said Elliot.

The sun was red like his bracelet.
The sky was turning blue like her hair-clip.
A whole day had passed.
She wasn't there.
He was worried. He had waited all day.
She was nowhere in sight.
A blue butterfly fluttered around his face. Landed by his side.
And he knew.
He knew.
She was gone.
So he said goodbye.
The butterfly flew away.
And he smiled.
