Dean Winchester was the kind of man that always put things on himself. One who always blamed himself for the bad things that happen to those he loves. And no matter how much his loved ones told him that it wasn't his fault, he still felt like it was. He always thinks that people cannot- and will not forgive him. But they did, and Sam and Castiel still do to this day. Just another bad quality of the Mr. Winchester that we all know. So, naturally, when Cas lost his Grace, Dean blamed it on himself. Even though it barely had anything to do with him. He knew that it was Metatron's fault. But for some reason, he still felt responsible. Like he should've taken better care of Cas. Like he should've looked after him. Made sure he wasn't just strolling into a trap blind. Though he also knew that looking after Cas was not his responsibility. He still could not not blame himself. He couldn't shake the feeling. God, sometimes he really did not like feelings. He'd always wanted to know how and why Cas developed emotions. But, when he got the answer, it was not what he'd expected.
"Hey, uh Cas, I've got a question and it'll seem kind of out of the blue.." he started. "O..kay?" Cas furrowed his brow and tilted his head to the side slightly. "Okay so um..h-how did you , ya'know develop emotions...?" he asked, standing up and looking at his blue-eyed friend. "Well, it was mostly you-..and Sam, of course. You two let me.. see the other side of the story and I suppose that, I don't know, made something.. 'click' in me," Castiel explained. Dean nodded. "Ah.. okay.." he replied, clearing his throat. "So is that...normal for angels?" he asked, raising his eyebrows. He remembered when Castiel told him about when Namoi had trapped him and Crowley had gotten the angel tablet. He remembered how Naomi had also said that Cas'd been a messed up angel from the beginning.
"I don't believe so. It could be. But, just because I'm an angel doesn't mean I'll know everything about angels," Cas told him. "Right, yeah, 'course," Dean agreed, nodding for what felt like the upteenth time since the conversation started, but truly, it was only the second time. "Was.. was that all you'd wanted to ask me?" Cas questioned. "Uh, yeah, man. Sorry for- bothering you," Dean said. "Oh, its alright. You weren't bothering me," Cas smiled. Dean smiled back and they locked eyes, staying in silence. It was a special thing that they had and both felt that they could almost communicate with one of those 'looks'. But, for some reason, this stare was different. It held much longer. Even when Dean thought Cas was about to look away, the staring contest never broke.
Dean had to practically tear his eyes away from Cas'. Ugh, this angel is seriously starting to make me question my sexuality. Dean thought. "Hey, man I uh.. I gotta say somethin'," Dean started with a slight sigh. "Okay. Say it," Cas replied, raising his eyebrows at Dean. "I.. when you were human, you'd never believe how much I missed you," Dean admitted. Cas tilted his head to the side again, as if to say Why are you bringing this up now? Dean shook his head. "I really did not want to kick you out of the bunker back then, you know that right?" Dean said. Instead of having his normal 'stone' look on his face, it looked more like he was pleading for forgiveness for an unforgivable crime. But, in this case, it was a forgivable crime. A crime that Cas barely even acknowledged.
"I know, Dean. It's alright. I forgive you," he told his green-eyed friend. Dean looked down. "I-I know...I've apologized to you before about that and.. I know you forgave me," Dean murmured, looking up and locking eyes again with Cas. They held that stare for even longer than the one that'd just happened. Damnit, Cas. Dean thought. Stop being so cute. Wait did I just call him cute? I did not just call him cute. I am not gay. Maybe I am. WHY AM I THINKING THIS RIGHT NOW? Dean cleared his throat, but still they did not break eye contact. Before either party had noticed, they were face-to-face, now closer to each other than friends should be. That stare didn't break until Dean's eyes flickered down to the other man's lips, then back up, his own lips parted slightly.
Cas didn't truly know what was going on, but what he did know, was that he loved Dean Winchester. But he could never tell him. Dean would surely be mad at him, or possibly even disgusted with him. Cas knew that he couldn't risk losing Dean. But now, all of those fears of rejection were obliterated as they grew ever closer. And before they knew it, Dean's lips were on Cas'. A feeling inside of Cas rose that he couldn't describe with words except for one: love. Pure love. And he was sure that Dean felt the same. Dean's hands rested on Cas' waist and Cas' hands rested on Dean's shoulders. The two stayed like that for a while, enjoying the soft, love-filled kiss.
Dean was the one who pulled away. "Damn, I have been waiting to do that for the longest time," Dean admitted, with a smile. "I have too, Dean," Cas said, with a smile in return. "I think I love you, Cas," Dean told the angel. "I know I love you Dean," Cas replied. "Correction, I know I love you, too," Dean said. "Well...um, what..what does this make us?" Cas asked, looking into Dean's eyes. "Well, what do you want us to be?" Dean looked back into Cas' eyes. "I.. I'd like for us to be a couple," Cas murmured. Dean grinned. "Then we will be a couple," he told him.
"Now, would you like to go on our first date sometime?" Dean asked with a smirk. "Yes..but I-um.. I've never really been on an actual....date....before," Cas stammered. "Hey, its alright," Dean smiled. "Maybe we could catch a flick?" He suggested. Cas smiled at him. "I'd like that." Dean pecked Cas' lips and sighed happily. "God, this was seriously a chick-flick moment. But I am glad it happened." Dean muttered. Cas simply nodded in agreement.
Dean Winchester would always be a man who blamed things on himself. But now, he knew he was surely forgiven by his Cas.
