'Hey Rita! Hey Rita! Hey Rita!'
'Will you please, be quiet for once? I'm trying to do our fractions paper!'
I hate it when Max speaks in my head when I'm working.
'You're in math? I'm in science.'
I sighed.
'For the last time, Max. I'm doing a fractions paper. Leave me alone.'
'Fine.'
Peace and quiet. Just what I like. "Ms. Gram? I finished my paper." The teacher looked up. "You're the first one done, as usual. You know what bin that goes in." I did. "Yes ma'am." I walked over to the bin that had my home room teacher's name on it. Right as I walked back to my seat I noticed someone staring at me. It was Sean. He was Staring. At. Me. I liked Sean. I thought he was unique. His name is not pronounced Shaun, it's pronounced like you're saying the word seen. "Hey Rita!" Hey smiled at me and waved. I blushed in response. "Uh, hey Sean." Class got dissmissed and I rode the bus home.
'Hey, hey, hey! How's Rita today?'
'Can it, Max. Aren't you supposed to be doing the English paper Mrs. Serinity gave us?'
'Can it, Rita.'
I laughed. 'Wait, but seriously. Aren't you supposed to be doing your English paper?'
'I'm supposed to be. Supposed to be reading a passage about how a dog can ride a tricycle and do a backflip, then I am supposed to answer 20 questions on that ridiculous paragraph of stuff I don't need to know. Homework is pointless.'
'Homework is practice.'
'Practice that I don't need.'
'Max, you need lots of practice.'
'I don't get it though Rita. Think about this for a minute. We work out butts of six hours a day, then come home to work more. It's not fair. We do so much work at school, and instead of coming home to play outside, we get to do more work when we get home. The gym teacher would agree with me. I get less exercise because of homework. Consider this.'
I was impressed. He did have a point. I'll have to sleep on that one.
'Good night, Max.'
Before I could hear his answer, I drifted off to sleep.
