Chapter 3

It's been two days since the intruder broke in. I always kept an eye out for him, but not anymore. Two days but no sign of him, maybe he broke into the wrong house and was looking for someone else when he saw me and knew that he busted into the wrong one.

My best friend Andrew and I have planned a night out.

He is miraculously stunning and moneyed. He has a sporty outline and his abs characterize him very well. He has a very deep voice. His greenish-brown eyes enchant every girl in the picture. He has a very ignorant demeanor towards everyone except me and Hayat, the third ally between us three idiots. His source of income for his million-dollar Armani jackets, classic car's and pristine Rolex every day remains unbeknownst to everyone. He never really speaks of his lineage, but once I recall him telling me that he belonged to some regal family from Estonia.

I met him in my academic years and we instantly bonded, and then there was Hayat left-back by everyone. She has a baby face and is our sweetheart. She has an awesomely pleasing figure and is very precious. Being the clincher of the class it was very challenging for her to cope with the bullying. Once she dashed out crying when a bunch of girls ridiculed her and that's when we met, and since then, I, her, and Andrew have been The Three Musketeers. She has assisted us with our studies and is the tidiest among us.

The three of us raised our glasses for our fifth toast, "cheers". We swayed our bodies to the piercing music as the time ticked by. We swore to be best friends eternally that day. It is the best night I reminded myself.

The darkness turned to new gleaming daylight quickly and we didn't even know until the foremost ray of sunlight broke in through the gap between the curtains.

Andrew declared that he had to hurry as he had some work pending. He swiftly kissed both of us on our cheeks and left. He kissed me more affectionately and gracefully, the same affection was missing when he kissed Hayat on her cheek, or maybe it was the tons of wine inside me that made me think like that. I shrugged to myself and turned to tell Hayat that I was heading to take a shower but she was already asleep on the sofa. I didn't bother to wake her up because I knew she was exhausted after dancing all night.

I disrobed and fastened my hair up with a rubber band. I stepped into the hot water that filled the tub, it felt very soothing against my skin. It had not been 5 minutes until the bell rang. Hayat was asleep so I got out and covered my body with a towel and stepped out.

I walked out and to my wonder, Hayat was not on the sofa. She must've woken up because of the bell.
"Hayat?"
"Hayat!?", I called out louder this time.
I finally proceeded to the door and saw that it was open. I glimpsed around but there was no one to be seen.
I turned to enter the apartment when something near the doormat grabbed my attention. It was the same signet ring that I saw on the intruder's finger...
