When my alarm went off, ripping me out of my blissful sleep, I thought the world was ending. It wasn't as I realized after I sat bolt, upright in my bed. But it was the end of Winter Break and that's close enough when you've already mentally checked out of school and value sleep more that gold. Groaning I rolled out of bed and easily slipped into my morning schedule. Shuffle to the bathroom, eat breakfast, back to the bathroom to brush my teeth and hair, go back to my room to get dressed and make sure I have everything in my bag. Satisfied that I had everything and dressed in layers I grabbed my keys and walked out of my house (locking up behind me) before anyone else woke up to start their day.
The Sun was still hanging somewhere below the horizon as I walked half a block to my bus stop. It wont be up for about another hour considering it was 6 o'clock and its usually breaking through the sky when my bus finally gets to school around 7. If you're wondering why it takes me so long to get to school I can explain it simply as magnet student. If you're lucky enough to not know what it takes for us students to get to school if you live twenty or more minutes away you should know that it requires two buses. One for your neighborhood containing anyone from every grade and one for your school; you switch at what's called a transfer station. Now enough of the boring stuff.
I found Amy in our usual spot, on the bench outside the cafeteria. Her blond hair was up in a ponytail and she was reading something off her phone. I threw my bag down and sat down next to her, catching her attention.
"Hey, how was your break," she asked as she put her phone away.
"Not long enough, I think I spent half the time trying to do all the review packets but would always end up just listening to music." She laughed and shock her head at that. "What about you?"
"Well I didn't do much. The most adventurous thing we did was go to my grandparents for Christmas. But you will not believe what I got!"
"What," I asked suspiciously.
Amy dug in her bag until she pulled out a pair of keys that she shook proudly in my face.
"You lucky bitch!" I yelled. "I thought you said there was no way your parents would buy you a car?"
She laughed, "They didn't, this is my Christmas/birthday/graduation present from my grandparents. But they did say not to expect anything from them again which I guess is understandable since its brand new."
"Okay, but now the most important question. Will you take me to and from school?"
"Of course, I wont let to suffer from the bus longer than you have to."
"You're really are a savior."
"I try, now c'mon. The bells about to ring." We gathered up our stuff and started heading to our first class, which we thankfully have together, a few seconds before the bell actually rang.
The first four periods dragged by in slight haze as I tried to keep myself awake. I actually did fall asleep in math but its not like it mattered since it was an easy class that I'm just taking to meet my requirements. Not soon enough the bell rang for lunch and I finally got a reprieve. I caught up with my other friends in those thirty minutes before going to the best part of school; art.
