Mia was still thinking about that new boy while she was walking towards her best friend, Ace. He was playing with his fidget spinner, rolling his eyes when it would stop spinning. She looked down at him, "Really? A fidget spinner, even now?" She threw herself on the table to his right.
He looks up and laughs, "Listen. I didn't go missing, you didn't go missing, our moms didn't go missing. So I could play with my fidget spinner, okay?"
She snorted, "Technically, your mom did go missing because she left when you were like eight."
He winced and nudged her shoulder. When he stood up, she took a second to fully acknowledge his appearance. Most girls are in love with him and she sees why—his brown eyes so warm, his hair soft as the clouds, dimples so deep she once fit some M&Ms in them.
She smiled at him—she loved making him laugh, his eyes always shined. And he did. A loud, throaty laugh, "Why are you looking at me like that, loser?" She crinkled her nose and stuck her tongue out, "I'm just hungry." He widened his eyes, "For me? Because you looked at me like you wanted to eat me."
She said, "Well, your eyes reminded me of the brownies I didn't have time to eat this morning so I guess you play a role."
He ruffled her hair, "I honestly don't understand how you're not fat."
"Probably the same reason as you. My height stretches it all out."
He sniffs, "You're not tall dummy, I'm 6'2. You're like..5'3?" She rolls her eyes and looks away from him, scoping the large expanse of her beautiful boarding school. That's when she sees him. The new kid.

He's sitting on the grass in front of the biggest tree in the school, playing with what seems to be a ruler. Ace tells her he has to go to PE. She doesn't have class as her teacher has been going through an emotional wreck after the missing case. So she sits. And waits.
Thirty minutes pass when she decides she wants to talk to him. With all the willpower she can muster, Mia walks past the street and into the stream of trees. When she gets to him, he looks up and shades his eyes from the sun. He grunts, "Can you move to the right a bit? So you can block the sun." She laughed, "No."
He exhaled, "Well I'm not going to look at you then." She sat down and bluntly asked him if he were the kidnapper. He smirked, "I wish. I'm too lazy to go through with that. Didn't even do my essay yet to be going around to kidnap people.
