Sitting in English class at her high school Amber catches herself staring out the window looking at the woods, dreaming of a world where she could just escape it all and live there with Rose. Although this wish seems impossible because Rose has never even talked to her. She is pulled out of this daydream by the bell ringing loudly, the long day is finally over. She gathered her things and walked out of the building. She begins walking home continuing to wish that Rose even noticed her, and they could together escape from the harshness of reality. As she passes through the streets she thinks about how much homework she has to start on. Finally she turns down her street and enters her house. Her mom isn't home yet as usual. She sets her homework on the table and instead of starting it she grabs her book and runs out to the edge of the woods. As she approaches the woods, the cool air of the forest drifts towards her. She takes a deep breath and sits on the ground under a large oak tree, reading her book about a magical land. She hears the noises of the forest, the breeze still lightly blowing. She remains reading as the sun slowly sets making her aware she needs to head back home.
She slips in through the back door and sees that her mom is walking up to the front door. She quickly shoves her homework into her backpack, it's only monday she reasons in her head I have four more days to finish it. She sits at the table continuing her book as her mom unlocks and opens the front door. " Hi Amber, how was your day?" her mom asked in a sarcastic tone
"Fine" she replies "good, now help me with dinner" "ok"
Amber chops vegetables to add to the pot of broth. The energy of the room is tense and quiet. Finally the soup is done, Amber grabs a bowl and goes to the table to eat, her mom remaining in the kitchen. Once she finishes, she washes her bowl and goes to her room without a word. After sitting for a long time she decides to start her homework. She doesn't get very far though as the thought of rose keeps popping into her head. After such an exhausting day she chooses to go to bed early as her dreams fade into the next morning.
