The sun shone through a small window, resting upon a girl sleeping in a small bed. Her dark black hair was strewn across the pillow, her pale skin, and her pink lips. She looked as if she was part of a noble family, just then *BANG BANG* you could hear on the other side of the door.

"RENA WAKE UP, HURRY UP, AND MAKE BREAKFAST!" Then you could hear the sound of heels clicking against the floor fading away. Soon Rena woke up, got dressed in her maid uniform, and headed to the kitchen. She was a girl about the age of 17 she had lost her mother at a very young age. She never knew who her father was, but she knew that the lady of the house, Miss Sable, had taken her and her mother a long time ago. After reminiscing over her mother she decided to start breakfast before Miss Sable would yell at her again. Once she was done she walked to the dining hall with the food on a cart, she opened the doors and wheeled the cart near the table. Miss Sable was at the table with her son Hiro who was Rena's childhood friend and the same age as her, having some sort of conversation. Hiro dressed in a white dress shirt, a brown vest, with black dress pants and black shoes, his brown hair neatly combed, and his silver eyes as sharp as ever. Miss Sable was properly dressed in a red ball gown-shaped dress. She was not sure what they were talking about until she got closer.

"Hiro, when are you going to accept any of the marriage proposals you have been receiving?" she asked him. He groaned. His brown hair shifted over his eyes.

"Mother.....you know that I don't have any interest in getting married to a girl that I don't even know..." he responded.

"Well.....what about Kathrine? She's a sweet girl and you have known her for a while, plus she comes from a very good family."

"Mother, I barely know the girl plus I only talked to her a few times. The last time I talked to her was when we were like 7," Hiro said back.

"Well she is coming here later today and you are going to entertain her while she is here, do you understand me?" Hiro sighed.

"Yes, ma'am..." Rena walked up and placed a plate in front of Hiro, she looked at him and gave him a soft smile. He returned the gesture with one of his own. Rena's purple eyes looked into Hiro's silver eyes.

"Rena...." Miss Sable in a stern voice, made Rena look at her.

"Yes ma'am?" she asked.

"I don't need you to stand there, hurry up and give me my food, and get started on your chores, I'll ask someone else to take the dishes away." Miss Sable started glaring at her. Miss Sable detested Rena but Rena did not know why.

"Mother... do you need to be so harsh with her?" Hiro questioned.

"She needs to know her place." She said sternly.

"It's okay Hiro, I should get started.." Rena spoke up. As she started to walk away Hiro grabbed her arm, pulled her down, and spoke near her ear so his mother wouldn't hear.

"After you're done with them, come meet me in the stables," Hiro said quietly. Rena looked at him confused but nodded her head anyway. Soon after she was done she headed to the stables as she was told. As she went in she saw Hiro near his horse waiting patiently for her.

"Hiro, what did you need me for?" She asked to break Hiro's concentration.

"Well ...today is your birthday and everything." Hiro started. "And I decided that you should have a present ... so happy 17th birthday Rena." as he said that he gave her a box wrapped in purple wrapping paper with a black ribbon on top.

"Hiro...you didn't have to," she said while grabbing the box.

"It's okay I wanted to get you something," he said blushing slightly putting his hands in his pockets. She didn't notice this as she was opening the box. When she saw what was in the box she gasped. It was her mother's necklace, when her mother passed away Miss Sable took it saying that she did not deserve it. She looked up at Hiro.
