The early morning sunrays were already beginning to appear. They wandered little by little through the buildings of the quiet city, while it's scorching light ripped the sky, leaving a beautiful colored carpet, with some of it's orange and yellow tones.

The small light that bounced on the window, tried to gently walk around the room until it successfully managed to disturb the being that was sleeping so deeply. She grunted a little, struggled to open her eyes, and finally found the courage to leave the comfort of her bed.

She stretched and walked towards the windowsill. She opened it and allowed herself to be contemplated by the scenery for a few minutes, while the sun caressed her face. Indeed, getting up early had its perks. It was almost impossible not to love this work of art, which is Nature.

Once she had the necessary Vitamin D, she began her daily hygiene and thinking about what to wear.

She got into the shower and let herself relax and be comforted by the hot water, almost as if she were being embraced by it.

As soon as she left, she decided that she would wear her favorite sweater – the fabric was red, velvety and warm enough to face the temperatures she would encounter along the way; she had dressed it as a parting gesture.

After so many preparations, she was forgetting the most important thing: mascara. She put a little on her eyelashes and when applying the product, she began to remember her childhood. The words of her late maternal grandmother came naturally to her mind – she could leave the house with nothing on her face, but she never said no to mascara.

That memory brought a sad smile to her lips. As growing up, she became aware of the ephemeral nature of life and that it took another piece from her.

She awoke from her divagations and hurried down the stairs. As she descended, she could hear a warm voice, followed by the opening and closing of cabinet doors. Then she let herself be guided by her ears to the kitchen.

It was her aunt, Sarah. She was preparing breakfast while excitedly humming some music.

"Hum, I see we're excited today.'' She said, as she sat down on the chair, she rested her elbow on the island and rested her head on her hand.

"And here's a tomato sandwich with hummus, accompanied by a nutritious orange juice for my beautiful niece.''

Arkana doesn't usually eat much for breakfast. The first thing she eats first thing in the morning was liquid food. However, her aunt had gone to great lengths and, of course, she wasn't going to insult her.

While trying to put some protein in her system, she could feel that her aunt was staring at her. She could feel something was wrong.

"You know... I would never stop you from doing anything, but I must confess that this house will be very empty without you...'' Enunciated. The face that had previously been cheerful now looked serious.

Hearing those words, Arkana felt her heart clench. She couldn't help but extend her hand and was grateful that her aunt was receptive to the gesture.

"I'll visit you so many times that you won't even notice.'' She assured her with a warm smile.

"I hope so... But anyway, let's change the subject. You have to hurry; I don't want you to be late at the airport!'' She withdrew her hand as she spoke and disappeared from the kitchen.

The sudden change didn't torment her. One of the things Sarah hated was showing the weak part in front of others, showing her vulnerability. And that, Arkana, knew it well.

After greedy enjoying the meal, her aunt drove her to the airport. They cast their gases in silence through the windows.

Arkana would be lying if she said she wasn't going to miss Jacksonville. She grew up there. In a way, she loved that vigorous and disorderly city. She loved the sunny days, but hated it when the temperatures were high. She hated feeling the heat, releasing certain salty droplets, also known as sweat. Certain paradoxism?

"Arkana,'' Her aunt told her before getting on the plane, pulling her lightly by the arm. "are you really sure you want to do this? Leave everything behind?

She was going to travel from the burning heart of America to the frigid heart of Canada.

She was going into her final year of college at the History of Art course at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

It was Vancouver she now chose to go into exile – an act she took on without much regret. She was firm in her convictions; she wanted to be far away from everything that tormented her. She wanted to turn the page.

"Yes, I want to go.''

She had to admit; the only thing holding her to that place was her aunt.

But her future was no longer in Jacksonville.

"Give my regards to Max,'' she told her, a little sadly.

"I will, I promise.''

"I'll see you soon," she insisted. "And give me news as soon as you get settled!''

She is a tender woman, eccentric and with a strong personality. However, at that moment, there was a certain emotionality in her voice. The mask she had tried so hard not to let go, finally fell away.

It was perceptible the sacrifice that her eyes reflected.

"I love you very much, aunt Sarah.'' She assured her. "See you later, alligator.

"In a while, crocodile.''

She hugged her tightly for a moment and then Arkana boarded the plane, and she left.
