Sersei hummed to herself as she walked along the path that led from her small, run down home to the barn where her company was. She carried a basket full of fruits and vegtables with some dried meat that she had traded at the market. The morning sun felt good on her short brown hair, the dew on the moss was cold under her bare feet.
Sersei opened the barn door and let the morning sunlight stream in. The makeshift bed she had made of layers of straw and some of her blankets seemed to still be holding up well. "Are you awake, Maggie?" Sersei asked loudly as she came to crouch next to his large body.
Magnarr grunted and cracked one of his bruised eyes open, his gold-colored eyes watched her intently. Sersei set her basket down and pulled back the blanket which was covering his torso, she hid her grimace well beneath a smile. She still couldn't imagine how he was alive after he had such a large wound that ran from his shoulder to the opposite hip. She had done her best to sew him up, but he seemed to be healing himself, which was a relief. Sersei was not a doctor, but a jewelry maker that could barely hem her own skirts.
Sersei covered him back up and turned to her basket. "I wasn't sure what you would eat, or if you would even eat, but I traded for some dried meat." Sersei grabbed the meat from her basket and put it gently into one of Magnarr's large hands.
He had not really been eating, he would grunt at her in the morning when she checked on him and then go back to sleep. She would stay with him for a few hours, gently moving his hair from his face and reciting some of her favorite stories before leaving to go do her work. Today was different, Magnarr seemed interested in the meat and brought it to his mouth and took a large bite. Sersei tried to ignore the small zing of fear that ripped up her spine at the sight of his large canine teeth.
He ate very slowly and Sersei watched him with a large smile. "This is great, Maggie." She beamed loudly which earned her another grunt. Sersei picked out the other pieces and placed them gently on his chest. "I have a lot of work today, so I will come check on you later, maybe I'll go trade for more of the meat?"
Sersei grabbed up her basket and stood, her big smile was still on her face as she watched him finish his first piece of meat. Sersei was about to turn to leave when there was a soft grip on her ankle. She turned to look at him and raised a brow.
"Do not go through so much trouble for me, woman." Magnarr's voice was rich and deep, making Sersei's face flush slightly.
He hadn't talked at all in the week that he had been here. "It is no trouble, I enjoy taking care of you." Sersei said before walking out of the barn and closing the door and leaning against it slightly.
The skin of her ankle was ignited with heat where his hand had been wrapped around it. Sersei eventually pushed herself away from the barn and hummed a happy tune as she walked back to her home. She had reached the porch when she noticed Wulfnoth sitting on her porch, looking far too grumpy for the beautiful day.
"A gentleman sends word of his arrival before he appears, Wulfnoth." Sersei said bitterly towards the man the was supposed to be her betrothed.
It was an old agreement that went back to both of their grandfathers, Sersei came from a wealthy family, but she did not want that anymore which was why she had moved far away from that bleary castle and left everything behind for her current home where she could make beautiful pieces of jewlery.
Wulfnoth didn't look pleased to be there, amongst the chickens that were walking around. To her, he looked exactly like he always did, a very spoiled man. "Come home." He demanded.
Sersei rolled her eyes and pushed past him and into her house which was still lit by the oil lamp she had lit early this morning. Wulfnoth followed her, the scowl was becoming a permanent fixture on his face. The face that Sersei used to think was the most handsome was now just a face to her, his blue eyes were not as pretty to her and neither was his tall slender figure.
