In the fight for both his life and Kora’s, Kylo had more than overexerted himself. He was sure he had never fought so hard and so fast for anything before, but he gave it his all. Utilizing the Force and his raw strength he took each guard down one by one, starting with the ones who ran toward him from his spot next to her cage and working his way out in order to keep the deadly weapons away from her. It works for too short of a time. When Kylo hears her cage hit the floor he knows he must act and act quickly. All of this work to save her life would go straight down the gutter if he had gotten this far, put in all of this effort, only to have her still get killed by the power hungry guards anyway.

So he slashes, throws, and powers his way through Snoke's guards, but he doesn’t make it to Kora in time. He turns his head to run to her and is horrified to see that another guard has his weapon in her cage, shocking her so badly that her body flops repeatedly against the bars. Kylo howls, shoves the nearest guard to the ground and violently makes his way to Kora. Everything around him seems to slow, nearly stop as he raises his saber high above his head. He had to save her. He was her Alpha for a reason, and that claim mark on her gland was a silent promise that he would always take care of her. Kora still convulses as he takes the final step toward the cage; she only stops as the guard tries to pull the baton out of her cage. It’s stuck, leaving Kylo with the easiest kill he’s ever had to complete. The guard holds his arm up in a weak act of defense, but Kylo gives no mercy. His saber cuts right through the guard, follows him to the floor and embeds into the floor until Kylo can pull it free. He doesn’t need to see the guard’s eyes to know the life is draining from them, and when he finally stops moving Kylo takes a look around him.

Seven bright red bodies lie motionless around him. One weaponless guard stands stunned at the door. Kylo crouches down fully alive and alert next to the cage. Kora sits on her back curved against the bars. Kylo can feel the guard’s fear radiate off of him and knows there’s no time to kill him. Before he tends to Kora he needs to send this last cowardly guard off with one final word:

“Tell the Order that the Supreme Leader has been killed, and that the Commander is taking the throne now!” He shouts victoriously. The guard skitters off out of the room and down the hall without a word, leaving only two people left: Kylo and his Omega.

Using his brute strength he pries the cage door open. Kora is pale and lifeless at the bottom of the cage, but Kylo still scoops her up and cuddles her in his lap anyway. He can’t stop his body from shaking and wracking with sobs as her limp body settles between his knees. Parts of her skin are charred and peeling, and others are bright red and filled with blood as if the top layer of her skin had been peeled completely off. Grim thoughts take over his mind, and he knows this doesn’t look good.

“Kora?” He says quietly, but he gets no response. “Omega, Kora. Kora, are you there?” He pulls his hand away from her hip and places it against her face, slapping her to try and wake her, but she still sits so still in his arms. “A-Alpha is here, Kora. I’m here. Wake up, Kora! Please wake up!” He pleads, but he still gets no response. He says her name time and time again, looks at her chest and sees there’s no movement. He was too late. He failed to protect his Omega.

There are no words to describe how devastated he is, no words to describe the anger he feels at the injustice his mate had faced during her time in the Order. He loved this woman. He wanted an established life with her, children, a future. He would have given up everything to save her life. But no. The Universe decided that she was worth nothing, and thus Snoke commanded his guards to snuff her life out. Kylo hugs her body close to him, openly sobs into her hair. His Omega. His Kora.

The one.

He didn’t know how he would go on without her. She had been the one person in this Universe Kylo felt like he had loved with ever fiber of his being, with every ounce of his heart and soul. And even so, she was taken so cruelly away from him.
