"It's just a coronation Vivi, you'll do fine." Luna comforted, helping me cinch up my dress.
"What if I mess something up," I mumbled back, looking in the large mirror at the finished dress," what if I trip over the dress and rip it in front of everyone?"
"Are you kidding? I made it, silly. It's made to be Vivi-proof."
"Well, at least that helps something."
"I know it doesn't fix everything, but we also don't have any time left to ponder what could go wrong. We've gotta go!" Luna shouted excitedly, grabbing one of my hands, pulling me out of my room and down the stairs.
Luna's my best friend, who just so happens (by a stroke of luck) to be a commoner. One day when I was nine, I snuck out of the castle and found them sewing outside their house. From there we started talking, and we've been friends ever since. While we were walking down the spiraling staircase, I couldn't help but think about how much Luna's outfit-making skills had changed, how much we had changed. We had both grown and matured since then, and it showed in every step. We got down to the bottom and walked over to where the castle entrance was, giving my outfit one more quick glance, which was also giving me time to breathe.
"After this, I swear I'm going to cut my hair. I hate it this long." I whispered to Luna while giving them a quick hug, reveling in the touch.
"I'll help you, if you want. Let's just get through this first."
"I'd like that. Thank you."
I broke out of the hug and walked through the doors, feeling a slight breeze hit my face. I saw the people, royals and common folk alike, all turn their heads to stare at me. I'll never get used to that. I'm used to hiding in the corner at royal parties with a book in my hand, not orchestrating them like I inevitably will be. Luckily for me, I didn't have to talk much here, just stand there proudly as my dad spoke, being the kingdom's ruler. As strict as he was, both as my dad and king, it isn't entirely without reason. My mother was the final victim of a long war that we had finally won. From there, dad had sworn to never let me fight, as he had said it was too dangerous. I thought about that as the speech droned on, looking back to see Luna, joined by our enchanted pets, peering out from the wooden double doors, looking just as bored as I was. I cheekily waved at them and turned back, just zoning out from the world for a while.
The world came rushing back to me with the sounds of loud screaming and the feel of blood rushing down my face. Something wasn't right, I just couldn't tell exactly what. Half of my vision was blacking out, but with what I could see I made my way back into the castle, closing the doors with the strength I had left before falling to the ground, but still awake. Luna rushed over to my side, helping me to stand up and walk back to my room, our pets right behind us. We get in the room and they help me sit down on my bed before trying to heal, well, whatever was making me bleed. After a while, I was able to finally make a coherent thought, so I thought to ask them what had happened.
"What in the world happened," I asked them quietly, while Nova, my pet dragon, landed in my lap," all I remember is me zoning out and then there was screaming."
"Someone attacked you right before you were about to speak. It sent everyone into a panic, and I'm also pretty sure you're not going to be able to see well out of your left eye now. On the flip side though, you're officially princess." They mumbled while going to grab some bandages from my bathroom.
"Yeah, I guess there's that. They didn't happen to hit my hair, did they?"
That earned a laugh out of them, which was rare.
