A Slave for Her
Chapter Sixteen
"James."
Dick suggested before he bit in his apple while leaning against the door frame of Raven's bedroom, which she stayed in alone.
"It's too plain." Damian said with a frown, resting against the nightstand beside Raven's bed with a list of names in his hands.
The list had originally been in Raven's hands since she was the one who created the list. Yet Damian, who had come in to deliver her laundry, had snatched the list from her when he had seen four names that he didn't like.
A debate over the baby's name had started between Raven and Damian; and Dick, who was passing by, had joined in.
For Raven, it was an anomaly to see everyone coexisting in the same space, given the emotional decision that hung between them as well as the conversation that took place last week.
"You can go first." Damian said, sitting back on the bench.
She studied him, using their bond. While it felt good to have the connection between them again, she wished the circumstances were different and that her heart wasn't split between two men. She longed for the time where Damian had been simply her little brother-in-law or the lover that she met in R'Fina.
"Dick told me you had agreed to...help with the mage's solution."
Damian nodded.
She licked her lips and shifted her weight. "I will work with the mages to find another solution. If another solution can't be found within a week, which is enough time for our bond to reform a solid connection and my body to heal, we will...go with the mages' solution... Afterward, I'm planning on leaving Dick and co-parenting with him."
Damian raised an eyebrow.
"Elainna." She explained. "I want to continue to be a mother to her even though I don't plan on staying with Dick... nor do I plan on being with you."
"Raven-"
She held up her hands, knowing what he was going to say. She had read his mind. "I love you, Damian, but I can't be with you. It would hurt Dick. And I can't be with Dick after he sees me with you."
"So this is it?"
She nodded while an unpleasant sensation crawled through her body.
"Don't I get a say? Doesn't Grayson get a say? I know we can figure-" He stopped and stared at her. "This is it?"
"Sorry, Damian." She turned and walked away from him.
"Raven." She spun around. "I love you. Grayson loves you. Please... give us time to work this out. Don't throw away our love."
She didn't respond as she headed to her room to cry.
Over the past week, the relationship between the three of them had been strange. Calm, but strange.
The atmosphere was like three roommates who just moved in together. They were friendly, yet cautious with their words.
Nevertheless, she couldn't comprehend the world that Dick and Damian had created around her or the sudden mood change between the two, even though she went with it.
