17. Body In Motion

We'd been in bed all day, savouring our time together. Our bodies in and out of motion, neither moving from being with one another. Even as we'd grown hungry in the middle of the day, I'd ordered food to be delivered, that we'd eaten in bed as we watched reruns of old tv shows. Even though I'm not that fussed about TV, I know Kristie loves her favourites, and I'd give anything to hear her laugh and smile as she tries to recite lines from the shows. The small TV in my room, for watching soccer matches late at night and early in the morning, the only light illuminating our faces as the last rays of the sun disappear from the sky. I shuffle closer to Kristie under the covers as I feel her body erupt with another round of laughter as she watches the real house wives, my arm wrapped gently around her waist

Sammi: "Your smile and laughter kills me Kristie"
Kristie: "Not as much as yours! I swear I'm going to make you a TV person though..."
Sammi: "Haha you can try!"
Kristie: "You won't fit in at a Mewis Christmas if you don't laugh at reruns of episodes you've seen a dozen times"
Sammi: "Oh I can just imagine you and Sam together on the couch! At least she'd get the lines right"
Kristie: "Hey! It's the enthusiasm that counts!"
Sammi: "You'd say the same about your singing too!"
Kristie: "Um my singing is amazing thankyou! You think yours is any better?"
Sammi: "Oh no! I know I can't sing...you will not get me singing at Mewis Karaoke nights either!"
Kristie: "You say that now...but a few drinks in and after you've seen Sam give it her all, you might change your mind?"
Sammi: "Haha do I want to see that?! I've seen her in the clubs..."
Kristie: "Haha dare you to tell her that next time you see her!"
Sammi: "Too bad she's already on her plane back to Manchester"

Kristie playfully jabs me as we cuddle together, warm and content as she leans in for a gentle kiss, before we're interrupted by her phone ringing. Glad we both have hoodies on, I watch as she reaches for her phone, accepting the Facetime, as Steph's face and voice blares through the phone

Steph: "Hey Kratcheeta...and Sammi! Y'all know a whole day has gone by right?"
Kristie: "Hey Steph! Haha yah we know..."
Steph: "Are you literally wearing the same clothes from a whole day ago? Have you two even gotten out of bed today?"
Sammi: "Um yeah, I got out of bed to collect the Uber order, Kris you got up to get the chopsticks I'd dropped on the floor right?"
Steph: "Ha! Right...so who's driving tomorrow then if you two are joined at the hip? I want to get to the airport safely tomorrow Sammi!"
Sammi: "Ha you're so funny! Millie dropped her car off this morning, so we're all set"
Steph: "So Kris, since Sam left me to head back to Manchester with her teammates and you're with Sammi, I'll just keep freezing my ass off here in this hotel! I hope yours is warm!"
Sammi: "Don't worry I'll look after her Steph"
Steph: "Oh I'm sure you will! You can thank me with a coffee and another cake pop tomorrow!"
Kristie: "I'm sorry Stephy, we love you!"
Sammi: "We'll see you in the morning!"
Steph: "Just make sure you're actually ready this time... I don't want a repeat of last time"

Kristie's face is bright pink as she looks at me, her hand fumbles the slowly fading mark on her neck. I chuckle lightly at Steph's comment

Kristie: "It's not like we didn't have clothes on"
Steph: "Maybe make sure they're on the right way and not inside out this time Sammi"
Sammi: "You should be grateful I even opened the door..."
Steph: "Was I interrupting something?"

I feel a deep shade of red outline my cheeks, Steph sensing this rolls around laughing on her bed, tears escaping her eyes as she fights to control the rounds of laughter rising from her chest. Kristie glances knowingly at me, I know she has shared many details with her best friend, we both join in Steph's laughter as she winks in my direction. Regaining some composure Steph is the first to continue her line of commenting

Steph: "Just make sure you've got your scarf on when we land Kristie, wouldn't want Bob seeing anything"
Kristie: "Jeez Steph!"
Steph: "Sammi's just lucky it's winter here and she can wear long pants"
Kristie: "Omg Steph you always have to take it that step further!"
Sammi: "Bye Steph!"
