Why does he stare at me? I wonder as I lift my eyes up from the book I'm reading. Why me? The Raven, by Edgar Allen Poe, a classic. The words from the book embed my brain with hopes of what the future will bring. I hope to one day become a famous writer like Edgar Allen Poe, but all I can do is hope.
I am pulled out of my thoughts when I hear a screech to the left of me. The boy that had been staring at me all class just pulled a seat out beside me and sat down. "Hello Simon," he said with an ever so slight smirk on his face. "What do you want, Jackson?" I said annoyed by him already. "Pissy today are we?" He said laughing at his own joke. I could see his friends all laughing to each other on the other side of the classroom.
"Just tell me what you want from me okay? Homework answers are $5, essays are $20," I said, rolling my eyes. "What? Can't a guy talk to you just as friends?" He said looking down at his feet. "No." "No?" "People only talk to me if they want something," I said bluntly. He leaned closer to my cheek and put his lips right up to my ear.
"Listen Simon, I need help with my grades and my friends will make fun of me if I say it out loud, please just tutor me." Out of everything that he could have said in my ear like 'Fuck off you gay nerd' or the many amount of slurs he could have said he asked me for help. Me. "What do you need help with?" I asked, surprised with how genuine my voice sounded knowing that I do in fact not want to speak to him.
"Please, just help me with everything. I have to become a better student or else my mom will kick me out of the house." It did sound like he was being genuine, and I could see the fear in his eyes when he mentioned his home life. "Meet me at the library at 6 P.M," I said, packing my books and getting ready to forget about this whole conversation.
"Wait!" He said, grabbing my sleeve on my school uniform, "I can't leave my house after 5 P.M-" "Why?" I said cutting him off mid-sentence. "My parents don't trust me alright," he said, his tone getting more and more annoyed by the second, "can you just come over to my house?" There were many red flags being said in this sentence. He could just be asking me to his house to bully and make fun of me or he could be asking me over to his house and give me the wrong address to make a fool out of me.
"Give me a piece of paper," I said. "What?-" "Just get me a piece of paper." Jackson handed me the paper and I ripped off the corner and wrote my number on it. "Call me, I'll be there." After that, I walked away. Walking away I could hear all of Jackson's friends laughing. "Hahahaha, I know guys, I just went over to him and called him a f-" I slammed the door exiting the classroom. "What a fucking prick!" I yelled after slamming the door. I was all riled up I didn't even realize I had bumped into someone. "Simon?" The familiar voice said.
"Oh, Maria!" This was Jackson's girlfriend Maria, I feel bad for her if I'm being honest, "Sorry, for bumping into you. I didn't notice where I was going." I hardly ever have to put on a fake smile but when I do it's always around Maria. Not saying that Maria is necessarily the bad person, it's her douchebag boyfriend, Jackson. "Someone's got you pretty mad, huh?" "Yeah, just your dumbass bo- I mean just the teacher, she gave me an F on the last test." That was such a shitty save but somehow she bought it, life must be hard for people who are as gullible as her. "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Well I should probably get into class to say hi to Jackson, see you later!" "See you later~" I mimicked as she walked away.
I'm so tired of this school, I thought, then I heard a slight ping come from my pocket.
