I woke up in the bed that Max had assigned me. Someone had laid me here, in my dirty bloodstained clothes and covered me with the blanket. There were other people in my room with me and I decided to once again wait it out. I had no idea what I was supposed to do and I did not want to make a fool of myself. It was dark so I had to rely on my hearing instead of my eyesight.
I heard someone roll over in the bed farthest from mine and I tensed. She rolled over then hopped out of bed. I looked over there, hoping to see something. All I saw was someone, wearing dark clothes. She typed the passcode into the door and when it opened, I saw her face illuminated for a split second. It was Max.
I was scared. Max was still on the loose and probably pretty mad at me. What on earth could she possibly be doing? Is she going to plot? To plan my death? I wondered all of this in the dark bedroom full of other sleeping girls, who probably didn’t even care. What if she blew up the dorm?
I watched her anxiously, but all she did was leave. I guessed it was around midnight, and I had no idea when she would be back. I closed my eyes, trying to sleep but I couldn’t. Later that morning, when it was still dark, I heard the passcode being typed in again. I tensed. This is it, I thought, she’s come to kill me.
But instead of a bloodthirsty Max, Terra was at the door, and so was Macy. They both slipped in almost silently, and started grabbing people and gently shaking them awake. If I had been asleep, I would not have woken up. Terra crept over to me, and seeing that I was already awake, she simply motioned for me to get up. I stood up and shuffled to the door with the other roused girls.
Macy squeezed between us and stood in the front, while Terra stayed behind. Macy started walking and motioned for us to follow so we did. No one said anything. Finally, Macy stopped in front of what looked like a large gymnasium.
“Okay everyone,” Macy was winding up for some kind of speech, “welcome to the training center. This is where you will learn many things, many skills, that will help you to survive. You are the girls that have been recruited within the last six months. You will be tested individually, then you will be put into groups for training. Let’s begin.”
“Chi. You are first.” Terra called out her name as if it were some terrible disease. A rough looking girl strutted forward like she owned the place. Terra directed her inside the gym, and about ten minutes later she came back out. Terra followed her out and called out many names to follow her.
“Kate.”
“Strata.”
“Mouse.”
“Moxy. Last but not least.” I stood up and followed her into the gym. It was huge, with a ceiling that was at least 50 feet high, and walls that could have stretched across my entire house a few years ago. I suddenly felt very small and vulnerable.
“OK Moxy, we’re just going to have you do a series of tests to see what your strongpoints are, and what you need to work on. We will start with hand to hand combat.”
With that, someone dropped from the ceiling and began their attack. The second they landed, they kicked their leg out and swiped my feet from under me. I rolled over, jumped up and ran behind this stranger. I jumped on it’s back and grabbed its hand pulling it back. I kept pulling until I felt it’s shoulder pop out of place. I stood up satisfied, but whoever was on the floor was not satisfied. I’m guessing it was a “he” and he stood up and just popped his shoulder back in pace.
