Chapter 10 (part 1)

"Mila!"

Napataas ng tingin si Mila mula sa paglalagay ng berry rose lip gloss sa mga labi nang marinig ang kanyang pangalan.

Malawak ang ngiti ni Carolina Ferrero sa kanya habang papalabas 'to sa isa sa mga cubicle sa loob ng malawak na restroom.

"Caro!" Agad siyang bumaling sa kaibigan. "I didn't see you before dinner, I thought your family didn't attend."

Her friend looked spectacular in a blue floral cocktail dress with micro straps, fitted bodice and full skirt. Nakalugay ang tuwid at hanggang balikat na buhok nito at kulay deep red ang mga labi. Bahagyang singkit ang mg mata nito pero morena ang kulay ng balat. Her friend's only jewelry were a sapphire necklace and bracelet. Kaibigan niya si Caro mula pagkabata dahil magkaklase sila sa all-female school mula elementarya hanggang high school.

"Yeah, we got here late. You finally got the Fiorever necklace and earrings? Shaya has them now, too? She's been telling me she wanted to get them."

Napangiwi ang kanyang ngiti. "Uh, I don't think so. I haven't even told her I got these. I haven't even told my parents yet."

Tumawa ang kaibigan. "You bad girl. Hey, I saw you with Mateo Vidal."

May kislap sa mga mata ng kaibigan.

"Yes, I told you our families are trying to be friends again."

"He's such a hottie." Naghugas ng kamay si Caro sa sink sa tabi niya. "Everyone wants a piece of him, you know. Well, at least our lady friends. I think he has about two or three regular fuck buddies, and he actually made them sign a non-disclosure contract."

Tumawa ang kaibigan at namula naman ang kanyang mukha. Mila hadn't really heard much about Mateo Vidal's sex life before now, but she thought that was mainly because her friends knew about the history of their families, so they tended not to talk much about the Vidals in front of her. Pero dahil iba na ngayon, mukhang marami na siyang maririnig tungkol kay Mateo Vidal.

"They say he's really careful about who he fucks and all. I can't even get answers from Gianna."

"Gianna?" Hindi niya napigilang itanong. "Gianna de la Vega?"

Isa 'yong sikat na modelo at socialite.

Tumango si Caro. "Yup. Our moms are amigas. I think Gi has been Mateo's fuck buddy for years now."

Bigla ay parang gustong umupo ni Mila.

Umiling siya sa sarili.

It was not the time for an insecurity attack and definitely not the time for acid thoughts.

She put her lippy back in her sparkling Jimmy Choo clutch bag and turned to face her friend again.

She had a job to do.

This gala was not just for charity and social mingling. Galas such as these were all about building connections. She had to do her part.
