*✧ 1 YEAR LATER ✧*

"Sooooo, have you reconsidered my offer?" Yeonju's face lightens up the second she poses the question. Her eyes flicker as soon as she leans back in a leather chair packed with comfy cushions.

My hands tighten on a small cup and I look down into the pitch black liquid sipping it a second later. This way she cannot see my face expression, a bit panicked, a bit lost, and surely discouraged. I let the coffee flow down my throat, closing my eyes for a short while.

"Moo-momma!" a cute squeaky voice breaks the sudden silence in the café making almost everyone glance in our direction.

8-months-old Seojun giggles under her tiny nose as she grabs a packet of sugar from the table, waving it with pure excitement. Her eyes flicker the same way her mom's eyes do and I believe nobody sane can easily get past her once they see such a disarming smile she possesses.

"Aww—Seojun—" Yeonju shifts her gaze away and stands up, pulling out her arms towards her daughter. "Yes, this is sugar," she nods in her baby's direction, having sat it on her lap. Seojun laughs again, sticking out her tongue. "And it's almost as sweet as you, my pumpkin, you know that?" She smiles widely and presses her lips against Seojun's forehead.

I immediately cheer up; this scene has got me melting in no time.

"Adorable. She is just adorable," I say, leaning forward so my fingers can touch her belly and tickle it slightly.

"That's true," my friend responses before her gaze lands on me again. "You, on the other hand, are nothing but anxious. But it is, huh? Is it this Tinder guy? Did you two finally—"

"No. And, thank God, no." I answer hot-heatedly and once I hear sharpness in my voice, I press my lips together and wince, regretting my words instantly. Yeonju's eyes widen at my tone, but she says nothing, noticing I want to continue. "Ugh, I'm sorry... It's just—just—I don't really know. I was supposed to substitute for you. I can't just snatch it from you like that—I'd feel awful. More that I actually do now."

"Y/N." her voice is calm and sweet when she speaks up. "You're NOT snitching anything from me, silly! I thought you could just stay where you are now and I could just do what you used to do—Lots of paperwork, but I could benefit from it, especially with Seojun constantly occupying my attention," she rolls her eyes and places a hand on her head to play with a few strands of hair that has just grown there. "I could still work from home thanks to it—I know, you may feel a bit overwhelmed with it all—I just know I can count on you and you've proven that many times."

My facial features soften at her remark; however, I just can't say yes right off. Not when I have even considered handing my notice in at work and starting my own company.

"I'm really trying... It's just— a year has passed and nothing has changed. I can't even date properly and—I just keep on hooking up with some lame Tinder guys. I'm exhausted." My eyes darken with sorrow as I sigh, finishing my drink. Soejun wiggles on Yeonju's lap, still very occupied with sugar and colorful printings on the packet.

"Your time is bound to come. You simply haven't met your Prince Charming."

"I haven't?" I ask a bit dumbfounded; a snort escapes my parted lips. "I thought I have and spent with him more than 5 years of my life. So I guess I've simply lost my chance."

"Ma—" Seojun keeps on babbling when her mom glares at me. She's probably still a bit upset I hadn't told her earlier about Taehyung and then our break-up. And speaking of Tae – he's said to be traveling all over Europe and to have gotten engaged with some Swedish girl. Luckily, I was spared the details.
