"Happy birthday, Wheeinie!" He said cheerfully and ran to the girl walking towards his direction. Even though his face was covered by a black mask and a cap, she still recognized him immediately and waved her hands.

"I came up to your apartment but you were not there so I decided to wait for you here. I want to be the first one you see when you get back." He said when she stopped in front of him.

"How do you know I was gonna ask why you were waiting here?" She smiled and helped him with the bags he was holding, which were all the birthday presents he had prepared for her.

"I know Wheeinie so well, ain't I?" He grinned and pointed to the presents now in her hands, "I couldn't decide on only one thing to give to you so I just got them all: Jean-Michel Basquiat book, Kehlani LP album, stuff for Ggomo. This cake is your favourite flavour - mint chocolate. And... some cute socks that you love!" He kept on chatting while she was just smiling.

Suddenly she cut him off coldly, "I don't like cute socks."

She pursed her lips and explained after seeing his shocked eyes, "Everyone gives me cute socks so I just keep wearing them, then they see me wearing a lot of cute socks and think that I really like them and keep giving me those. I don't hate them, I'm just not crazy about them like you may think I am."

He was so stunned at her frankness that he couldn't say anything after that, but she didn't let him overthink for too long. She smiled and held up the gifts he had just given her, "Thank you for all these presents and the cake, I'll enjoy it. I think I should go up to rest now."

He looked at her and noticed that her smile was somehow softer than usual. It was like she was smiling halfheartedly, which she had never done in front of him. She definitely had something on her mind, but he couldn't figure out what was wrong. He didn't want to ask and make her uncomfortable on her birthday, so he took a shot at cheering her up in another way.

"That's it? It's your birthday, don't you want to do something fun?"

She shrugged, "It's been a long day and I'll also have an early photoshoot tomorrow, so let's take a rain check today."

"Come on, why are you like this, Wheeinie? We haven't seen each other for weeks and it's also your birthday. Let's celebrate!" He pouted and nagged at her cutely.

"It was yesterday." She let out a long sigh and furrowed her eyebrows.

He mirrored her expression and asked nervously, "What was yesterday?"

"My birthday was yesterday." He froze at her response, hoping that it was a joke but she didn't laugh at all. She wasn't someone who could refrain herself from laughing at her own jokes right after telling them so she was undoubtedly telling the truth.

"What?! I remember it's on the 17th." He blurted out then laughed awkwardly.

"Yeah, but today is the 18th of April. You didn't pay attention to the days passing by at all."

"I-I-" Taehyung sputtered.

"It's okay, I don't blame you. You're too busy after all." She put some stuff down to hold his hand. She was smiling that soft and sad smile again and somehow he felt like she was stabbing him right at his heart. She chewed on her lower lip for a few seconds before speaking up, "But Tae ah-"

"Yes?"

"Let's break up." Her sad smile had already put a knife into his heart and now her break up request was pushing the knife deeper and turning it around to make sure he could not get out alive. His sight got blurry as tears started flowing down his cheeks.
