He didn't know.

He didn't understand.

Why did it hurt so much?

Dream and George were friends, best friends. They had known each other since the blond was 10 and the brunet was 12.

Dream had never forgotten the day a brunet reached out to help him stand up when he fell off the monkey bars and scraped his knees.

How the boy had led him to his house and helped clean and bandage up the wound.

How the brunet comforted him, telling him that he was going to be okay when he was on the verge of tears due to the sting of the cold water cleaning his knees.

How their friendship started from that moment.

How everyday he would wait for him in the playground.

How they'd do their homeworks together and whenever he didn't understand things he would ask the older.

How he had introduced the brit to the 8 year old Sapnap.

How every night they would stay up playing minecraft until their mothers were shouting at them.

How George would complain about Dream getting taller and taller each year they spent together.

How the brunet would try to plan him a surprise birthday party, yet fail whenever the blond would pick up on strange behaviors.

How Dream cried in his bed for a week when George had to move back to london.

How they would spend hours on discord calls talking about everything and nothing.

How George had helped him explore his sexuality and come out to his family members.

How Dream would act clingy and overprotective to the brunet, begging him to not abandon him when he found a lover.

And how the Brit would laugh at the joke and reassure him everything would be fine and he would most definitely be one of his groomsmen if not his best man.

"When I get a girlfriend that is, doubt I'll be getting one soon," the brunet had added.

And how they both would laugh.

How the blond had dragged both of his friends to make youtube videos and build up a community where they would have millions of people watching them.

How they would laugh, win championships and events, and even fake flirt together for the extra views.

Yet he had ignored it.

Or at least…

Tried to.

How by each year the butterflies would flutter more and more.

How he had used the excuse of being clingy and overprotective everytime his heart ached at the thought of his best friend being with someone else.

How he had always wished it was him and the brit whenever he saw couples on tiktok.

How almost everything would remind him of George and his bright smile and laughter.

How his cheeks would warm up whenever George flirted back at him.

How much his heart ached when he kept reminding himself that his best friend was straight.
