Sometimes He Holds Me

It isn't always bad,

Sometimes he holds me...

Sometimes he holds me.

When I'm broken and shaking,

The pain tearing my frame apart,

He wraps me in his arms,

And strokes my hair,

Calming my heart.

And when he hurts me,

And I'm decimated,

By betrayal and lies,

His comfort and remorse are louder than his crimes.

And sometimes he's sorry,

Wishes he could take back what he said,

Like when he screamed that I deserved the abuse,

The life that I've led.

And he didn't remember the cruelty,

And the life he stole with those words,

But he grieved for the soul he harmed,

And he held me in his arms.

And when he's feeling small,

And his mind can't find his voice,

I hold him tight,

Because he's always been mine.

And it hasn't always been healthy,

Actually...

It never seems to have been.

But sometimes he holds me,

And it's all that matters then.
