I woke up in my bed, my eyes squinting because of the sunlight shining through my bedside window. I looked at the door to my room, seeing the poster of Yurei. I smiled as I thought back to when Yurei went to Yuei for the first time, his smile was wider then the small kind one I was use to seeing on his face when he was home. When I was six, making Yurei ten, his parents died in a plane crash on their way back from vacation. Yurei was staying with my mom and I while they were away but when they died his stay became permanent. He lost that hopeful spark he would have in his eyes and he rarely smiled for a long time. Over the next three years he would get better as he dealt with the grief, his a thousand yard stare and his permanent frown became a empty glance above a small smile. I remember the way he put his bag over his shoulder and rubbed my hair as I stood at the door with him.
Yurei:Wish me luck.
Y/n:I will!
He smiled at me as he opened the door and waved good bye at my mom, the rest of the day was me waiting impatiently for him to get back. When he finally came back through that door I rushed him immediately.
Y/n:HOW'D YOU DO?!!
Yurei:I'm not sure yet, it's not like they gave me the results right there.
Y/n:Right,.... I'm sorry.
Yurei:Don't worry about it.
He rubbed the top of my head again as he walked past me.
Yurei:But, between us, I think I did pretty well.
While growing up I was around Yurei constantly and I was always reminded of just how cool he was. It started when I got my quirk, it was basically the same as his but it wasn't as useful. I couldn't do everything he could, I couldn't make myself invisible like he could and it was alot harder for me to move through walls like he could. We could both become intangible but he felt so much more powerful than I was. My inferiority to him only become more apparent as he went through Yuei, during his second year he was already deemed one of the best students in the school. Eventually he did so well that a third year at Yuei wasn't even necessary, he graduated at the end of his second year and become a pro hero from there. At seventeen he had become the world's youngest hero, the ghost hero:Poltergeist. During all that time he helped me train my body and my quirk but that didn't help how weak I felt when compared to him. At the beginning of his hero career I saw Yurei less as he worked more, when I did see him he was always tired. By the time that changed he had bought a house for himself, it wasn't far but I still didn't like it. A year after he moved out was the year that I would take the Yuei exam for the hero course, I got up that morning and threw on a purple hoodie and a pair of blue jeans. The last thing I put on was the cross necklace Yurei had given me when he left a year before, a parting gift that his dad gave him before leaving for the vacation. I looked myself once over in the mirror, hyping myself up for the test.
Y/n:Alright Y/n, you got this. You can't let big cousin down.
I walked out of my room and headed for the door but my mom wouldn't let me go without a goodbye. She hugged me tight before kissing my forehead, which she had to stand on her toes to do.
Y/n:Ma, I've got to get going.
Mom:I know, I'm just so proud of you.
Y/n:But I haven't even gotten to the school yet.
Mom:I'm proud that you're trying your best, that's what I'm proud of.
Y/n:Thanks Ma.
Mom:Alright, you can go now.
Y/n:Wish me luck.
Mom:I will.
I smiled at her as I opened the door and ran out, dashing for the school with a stupid smile on my face. As I ran I got dangerously close to running into a group of three people, two boys and a girl. I activated my quirk right before I hit them and just fazed through their bodies, I turned back a little as I ran to wave back at them.
Y/n:Sorry!
I didn't stop running until I got to the main gates of the school, my breath heavy and my lungs on fire.
Y/n:Here we are, Yuei high.
I took a deep breath and walked through path to the school, my eyes shining as I looked at the number one hero school.
Y/n:I can't believe I'm finally here!
After walking into the actual building I had to take the written exam, it didn't take that long but the thing that came after was what was important. The physical test, I rode on a bus to the fake battle city. Unlike every else I didn't change into training clothes, I just took my hoodie off to reveal a purple shirt underneath. My necklace was actually visible now as I sat in a seat by myself, I had never been the talkative type. When the bus ride ended and we all stepped off I was amazed by the amount of people actually taking the test. Ahead of me was a city that was built just for the test, I ran into the fake city but quickly got cut off by a group of testing robots. I put my hands up as one of the robots ran at me, I dodged the swing and ended up kicking it in the neck area. It went down and actually began to shake before shutting down, I smiled at my first take down before I turned around and saw a metallic fist inches from my nose. I activated my quirk and the robot fazed through me, I jumped into the air as I turned my quirk off and slammed the front of my foot into the side of the robots head. It's head flew off as I landed back on the ground, I turned around to see a third robot prepping rockets to fire at me. I stood up and ran at it, activating my quirk so the rockets flew right through me. When I got close enough I brought my fist back and slammed right into the robots face, it crushed way easier then I thought it would. I put my fists up again as the ground started to rumble and a giant robot appeared.
Y/n:Woah!! My quirk isn't able to help me with something like that!
As I took in the scene I saw a bunch of people were stuck under rubble of buildings, without a second thought I ran forward and used my quirk to go through anything that would trap me. When I got over to the trapped people I began to move rubble and help them up, doing my best to get whoever I could out of harms way. As I carried a girl into an alley away from the street I looked back to see a boy jump right infront of the robot, he brought his fist back before slamming into to the robot. With just one punch he completely demolished that massive thing.
Y/n:No way, there was a guy that strong here this entire time?
As he fell I noticed his body was completely broken, his legs and right arm were completely battered.
Y/n:He hurt himself that much to help people?
*FlashBack*
Yurei:Remember Y/n, a hero is just some guy that's willing to do anything for innocent people. Even if it means he gets hurt or killed.
*Reality*
Y/n:A real hero....
