THE TOY SHOPPE y/n worked at was fairly crowded the eve of new years as civilians throughout the busan desperately sought to search for last minute gifts for those who were worth giving.

the amount of pressure placed upon y/n was immense-- her whole shift consisted of herself being on her own two feet for hours, writing receipts for toy purchases and boxing and wrapping gifts for those who desired the service.

quickly though, a girl her age that she'd never seen before walked into the establishment and rapidly caught her attention from across the room. she had short raven hair and eyes that could captivate anyone in the room.

y/n's eyes were on her for a while despite the awfully crowded room, but the girl didn't seem to notice, her eyes were focused on the displayed train set that moved in the center of the store.

"y/n! the phone!" y/n's manager yelled at her from across the room which broke her gaze on the girl. she shook her head and recollected herself. "i'm on it ma'am."

the phone call ended and so did y/n's fixated gaze on the young woman who caught her attention at work. she searched for the girl with her eyes across the room, but she was no where to be found. y/n sighed, not sure why she was so captivated with the girl but also disappointed she didn't have the opportunity to talk to her as well.

y/n then continued about her work not giving it anymore thought. while jotting some information, she felt someone peering over her as she did so.

looking up, y/n caught the gaze of the girl from the across the room, the one she was so intrigued by. from up close she could easily spot the freckles splattered across her small nose and cheekbones and the dimples that sunk in her chin while she was smiling at her.

"hi, i'm here for the jennie doll of this year," she expressed calmly while y/n was still clearly shaken up by the sight of her.

"o-oh ma'am, i'm sorry but we're all sold out- b-but we've got plenty of other dolls-"

"when you were eight, what did you want for the new year?" she asked the stammering girl in a serious manner-- almost as if she was conducting an interview for her. y/n thought to herself for a while before saying, "i really wanted a train set."

"a train set?" the girl asked now growing intrigued. "not dolls or dresses, but a train set?"

"yes, i grew very fond of train sets since my father worked on trains when i was little," she explained further before flipping the conversation around. "and you? what did you want for christmas when you were eight?"

the girl thought to himself for some seconds, unable to come up with an answer so she simply said, "i can't recall."

y/n awkwardly shook her head at his response, unsure of what to say but also sure she wanted this conversation to last longer. the two looked in each other's eyes which was safe to say made y/n weak in the knees.

"well, maybe my brother will like a train set, perhaps," the girl said, awkwardly breaking their unintended staring contest. "thank you...?"

"y/n. you're welcome-"

"sae-byeok, kang sae-byeok," she responded proudly. with the minutes remaining y/n had gotten sae byeok's address for the toy to be shipped to her home new year's day,

before sae left the shop, she looked at y/n one last time before leaving, hoping that maybe she'd come across her again.
