Recap:
As they talked and ate breakfast, y/n's mother glanced at the clock and abruptly stood up from leaning on the counter. Before y/n could ask what was wrong her mother hastily spoke, "Y/n, go put in your contacts and make sure your hair and scar are covered. Quickly!" Without so much as a nod, y/n shot up, snatched her contacts off the table and ran back upstairs almost tripping over herself in the process. She knew what that look was. What that tone was. Her "father" was coming home today.

~~~~~~~~~~Recap Over~~~~~~~~~
With that realization and the sound of a door opening from downstairs, she quickly fixed her appearance, inserted her colored contacts and begrudgingly stalked back downstairs to greet her "father". Otherwise know as Liam Ekker, the bastard who could drop dead for all y/n cared.
At the bottom of the steps, y/n looked toward the kitchen into the seat where she once sat. There, Liam sat rigid and hunched shoulders carrying a hushed conversation with her mother. Her mother, spotted y/n at the base of the steps and urged her over. At the sound of her steps, Liam sat up and turned. Giving her a once over and seeing nothing out of place he grunted and turned back around.
The atmosphere was tense. It was thick with unspoken words and felt cold. So, so cold. Y/n quickly made her way to her mother's side and sat down. Without so much as a glance in her direction, Liam spoke. "You may be wondering why I'm home early y/n. I told your mother ahead of time but asked to keep it between us." Y/n shot a glance at her mother before directing her gaze back onto Liam. With a gruff voice, he continued. "To start, your mother and I are getting a divorce. We mutually agreed that this was the best choice for both of us. We don't love each other anymore and I've already found someone else."
Wait a minute. Wait a bloody minute. You mean to tell me that you were actually dating someone while you and mother were together?! I knew it you absolute dirtbag of a father. You complete asshole. I ought to-
"Y/n." Startled, she looked up in the direction of the voice. Her mother looked back with a slight frown and slightly glossy eyes but a determined look. "I know how this must seem to you And I know what you're thinking. But please understand that I did agree to this and I've already known what he was doing."
In her mind y/n spat, more like who he was doing. Y/n frowned. Her mother continued, "I know you're angry honey. But please listen to your father. He does care about you more than you know." Y/n snapped and with a hard look towards Liam spat, "No he does not." With a harsh breath she continued, "If he cared so much then tell me why he looks at me with complete hatred? Why must I cover and hide myself from him just for him to be unsatisfied and disgusted with my entire existence?!" Her mother looked at her with a sad expression, not even upset at her outburst. She knew that her daughter has been questioning why her father doesn't seem to like her. Ever since she was little.
Y/n shot daggers at Liam, and what she saw only irritated her more. Her so called father hasn't said one thing and was looking back at her with a neutral expression, as if unbothered by her rude outburst. Before she could spout another round of questions he spoke. "It's not that I don't love you y/n. I do. Very much. I just wish you were different. Normal."
Normal. NORMAL. Very bloody peculiar coming from him. He hasn't shown an ounce of normalcy for as long as I could remember. The audacity he has to ask for normalcy.
With a slight sigh he spoke again. "Anyways, I've come back early not only to tell you this but to also let you know that I'm grabbing the rest of my things and I'm moving out." With a slight turn towards the mother's direction he stated, "I will meet with you in court to finalize the divorce and discuss child support. " Without another glance in y/n's direction he stood from the table and made his way upstairs.
Y/n's mother looked at her daughter and sighed. She spoke, "Help me clean up the kitchen. We'll be in a crunch for time but we'll start the preparations tomorrow." Without another word, she turned and began to put up the remains of breakfast. Y/n, shocked and angry, silently nodded and began to clean the table and wash the dishes.
A half an hour later Liam came back down the stairs, his belongings in tow and without another word left out the front door. It was quiet for a majority of the day. Y/n, closed off in her room and her mother tending to the farm. Around the evening time, y/n emerged from her room significantly less pissed than she was earlier. Her mother sat on the couch humming a tune while knitting. Y/n joined her mother and grabbed some colored yarn and some needles.
And like this they sat in comfortable silence humming and knitting until they both fell asleep.
