I'm stupid for pushing myself so hard yesterday. It's majorly bitten me on the arse because now I can barely move from the couch. I emailed my boss to let her know I planned on coming back to work next week, but now I feel so shitty, I'm worried it wasn't the best decision.

The doorbell chimes throughout the house and I check the camera on my phone to see it's the postman. Once I saw those recording doorbell advertised online, I had to have one. It makes life so much easier.

Elsie is too busy munching on her punnet of raspberries to notice me, which works out perfectly because these boxes have Dean's Toy Stores scribbled all over them and they're for Christmas.

"Elsie," I shout, peeking at her around the door to see her eyes fixed on the telly. "I won't be a minute."

I think I went a bit mad on the Barbie dolls and accessories this year because there's two huge boxes. I carry one to the under stairs cupboard and squeeze it in between the hoover and the wall, stacking the other on top of it.

"Knock, knock." Max waves through the open front door.

I smile. "Hey, Max. Nice of you to visit."

He steps in and slips off his trainers. "I thought I would seeing as though I'm in the area."

I give the door a good shove to hold back the boxes and walk towards the kitchen. "I'll make you a drink. Coffee?"

He follows after me, not before saying hello to Elsie. "How are you feeling?"

The kettle starts bubbling when I switch it on at the wall. "I'm feeling better than when you last saw me. The exhaustion is a bitch though."

He grabs a seat at the breakfast bar. "I bet. There really is nothing worse. I would say regular little naps could help."

I laugh. "Once my head hits the pillow, there's no way I'm waking up."

"Fair enough," he says on a chuckle, climbing off the chair to grab Elsie into his arms when she runs in here. "Oof! Hello, cheeky monkey."

Elsie smiles. "Uncle Max, do you want to watch some telly with me?"

He nods. "You bet I do. I'm just speaking to mummy for a second, okay?"

She wriggles off his lap and runs to the fridge where she grabs a juice drink. "I will look at the options."

"What?" he says to me with a half-amused, half-confused smile.

I chuckle. "She likes to weigh her options up. What can I say?"

He shakes his head. "She's so flipping cute."

"I know. I can't handle it sometimes," I reply, dumping a green tea bag in a mug for me.

"I wanted to speak to you about the other night."
