"Beau, hurry your butt up!" Ashleigh called up the stairs from her spot near the front door. "Sid is waiting!"
"Okay, give me five minutes?" I called back to her.
"Okay, when I sit down in the car your five minutes start. Got it?" She hollered back.
"Yup!"
I heard the door click shut, I hulled ass 3 minutes left. Hair was done, suit was in check. Teeth white, lucky ring on, breath fresh, face clean and shaven. Okay Beau, you look good. I walked out of my bathroom, then bedroom, and down the stairs. I turned to the hall closet and took out my black wingtip dress shoes, which were freshly polished. I sat down, put them on one by one and laced them up.
Out the door I went. I pulled out my key and looked the deadbolt, then entered the code for the door, hit the long button and turned the lock. Ashleigh was big on security so when I moved in with her and Sid she wanted to make sure that we had a more secure system.
I walked past the German Shepard we call a pet, and guard dog, named Jäger. See Jäger can go inside but he likes it outside and because of the invisible fence he can't leave the property. We had about 2 acres, so Jäg had lots of space. The first month I lived with them to walk into or out of the house Ash or Sid had to be there with me. He's fine with me now though. I hopped down the steps and reached back to scratch him behind the ear. "Be good" I muttered, I knew he would be.
I turned back around and walked to the car. I rolled my eyes at the sight. I went to the back passenger door, I tried to open it. Alas it was locked. I tapped the glass and Sid's hand fumbled to find the switch on the side of the door to unlock it for me. The door clicked and I slid in. "Jeez, get a room."
"We had one." Ashleigh smiled back at me.
"Have you two been making out this whole time?"
"Yes. Have you seen her?" Sid asked.
"In fact I have. I live with her." I retorted. She was very pretty. Sid was lucky that she moved here when he asked her to. His high school girlfriend.
She had loved hockey her whole life, from what she told me. I haven't been around long enough to actually see her play, but I know she can skate. "Can we just go now?" I asked
"Fine." Sidney huffed. He straightened out his tie and turned on the ignition. He backed out and changed gears to drive before gently grabbing Ashleigh's hand. Have I mentioned I'm the biggest third wheel ever? No? Well now you know.
I live the single life because I've had people fuck me over and try to be with me just for the money that comes with my profession. So when I'm out with the team and they all have their wives and girl friends and I'm alone because I can't trust anyone. The Letang's were a my favourites because we hung out with them the most and his son is so cute.
I closed my eyes and waited until I knew we were at the arena. How did I know? There was always a difference in the air. It was tense almost. The smell of blood could be picked out if you were use to it. The blood came from many places. Fights before the game by the fans. Fights durning the game by the fans. Fights on the ice. Fights near the locker rooms. Fights after the game, again by the fans.
But I wouldn't trade it for the world.
There was nothing like the roar of a crowd. Fans screaming your name. Posters held up meant for you.
When the car came to a full stop I got out and walked ahead of the lovely - haha yea that's what they are - couple.
Adoring fans were already lined up outside. One of them caught my eye. A small child he looked to be around 6 or 7 had called my name. And I had almost missed him.
I made my way to him. "Hey little man! What's your name!" I asked him.
At first he was shy but the older man with him (I would presume his grand father) encouraged him to speak. "My name is Nathan. But every one calls me Nate." He spoke.
"Nate that's a nice jersey you got there. Who's on it?" I asked.
"Kris Letang. He's my second favourite player!" Nathan was very excited.
"Who's your first?" I asked truly curios.
"You!" Nate started shyly and finished with a large smile on his small face.
"Me? I - Beau Bennett - am your favourite player?" I was actually quite shocked. I was thinking it would be like Fluery or something.
"Yes. You're new and young. Like me. You still have lots of time to get better and prove yourself." I was at a loss for words for a moment.
"How old are you?" I asked. He held up 7 fingers and smiled. I looked up briefly at the older man to check if that was right. The man nodded and smiled at me.
"But Mr. Bennett sir, tomorrow's my birthday and I turn 8. So my papa took me to the game for my birthday!" He said cutely. I smiled profoundly. This moment made me wish I had someone to call my own, someone to settle down with and have kids.
"Nathan, what would you like for your birthday?" I asked. "Is there something I can get my biggest fan?"
"Can I sit with you and the boys in the dressing room?" He asked.
"What are your seat numbers?" I asked the older man. He pulled out the tickets they had from his pocket. I took a picture of the numbers and put my phone back in my pocket.
"Can you actually do that for me Mr. Bennett's sir?" He asked with a childish grin.
"Well Nate, I can certainly try. And if I can't I'll send someone up to your seats."
"Thank you Mr. Bennett!"
"Alright Nate, I have to go. I'll send someone to your seats with news."
