Her hair swayed gently in the breeze, kept untidily as though she didn't even try to fix it. Not that it looks bad, it actually suits her looks. Her personality lines up with what people think when they first meet her as well.
That was what I thought, anyway.
But.. no matter what she looks like, she'll always be perfect in my eyes. I didn't look away, I couldn't. It was as though some sort of force made me watch as she lay down on the grass, eyes closed with a slight smile on her face.I lay there beside her, admiring her features and listing them. Her face looked so peaceful... I could look at it for hours.
I glanced at the pen and paper in my hands and knew what I was going to do. I immediately got to work, sketching her features one by one to the best of my abilities. I've done it so many times and yet it can never match when I look at her from first perspective.Just as I was finishing up her eyes fluttered open, revealing the bright irises within. For a couple seconds green met gold, as we looked at each other with the same thought.
She brought her hand to my cheek, cupping it closer to her face. She smiled wider, her cheerfulness radiating and making me smile alongside her.
I placed down my stationary and picked up my now empty hand, bringing it closer to her face. Just as I was about to repeat the same action she showed toward me, my hand didn't meet any surface or skin.
I watched in horror as she faded into dust, her last words coming out of her mouth just as she disappeared. I felt my eyes getting watery as a memory played in my mind.
There she lay on the hospital bed, her predetermined fate coming closer. She had her signature smile, but it looked weak. Tears slid down my face progressively, the woman in front of me was about to reach her end and I couldn't do anything about it.
"..."
"Hey... look at me"
".. I..."
"Xiao... listen to me."
"..."
"When I say this next part, I mean it, I truly do."
"What?"
"------------------"
"Venti.."
Her eyes shone brightly for a second, after which they turned slightly dull. A sudden realization washed over me, but I wouldn't accept it. I couldn't accept it. I cried harder, my breath getting faster.
"VENTI!!"
The memory ended abruptly, leaving me in a state of numbness that I couldn't comprehend. I woke up in the middle of the night again. My pillow was wet and my blankets looked very messy.
A voice echoed in my head, repeating the same sentence over and over again. The exact words she spoke that day, it just wouldn't stop.
