[Maria Flynn, 20 years old, now single, sits in the living room of her ranch house. Her two friends, Deborah Collins, 22, and Elena Jones, 21, sit with her on the sofa. Jo, her 10 year old Australian Shepard barks at her Paints and Quarters grazing far out in the pasture. A bucket which Maria has been throwing up in sits in between her feet. Elena holds a cold, wet hand towel to her forehead while Deborah holds her hair while Maria throws up again. She lays back on the sofa.]

Elena Jones-Is the pain all out now?

Maria Flynn-[scoffs, then sniffles]-I wish.

Deborah Collins-I feel so bad for you. But if it helps, he's the one that should be feeling this way. He lost a great person. And what he did was his problem. If he thought you were not good enough for him, then he's a complete dumbass.

Elena Jones-She's right. You don't need to be with city boys. There are tons of fun country boys for you. They know how women are and they know how to treat them right. City people belong with city people. You're a beautiful country girl and proud of it.

Maria Flynn-Thanks guys. I actually feel a little better.

Elena Jones-Do you want to go for a ride?

Maria Flynn-You know I'm always up for a ride. Go tack up Storm, I'll do Jasmine and I'll give Izzy to Deborah.

[Maria, Elena, and Deborah tack up two Paints and one Quarter. Maria gets on a black and white Paint mare. Elena gets on a chestnut Quarter and Deborah gets on a sorrel and white Paint. They ride on the side of the road. Two hours later, they ride up into the driveway and dismount. They untack the horses and put them back in the pasture and go back into the house. Change to Maria's ex-boyfriend, Alex Graves, 21, with his not-so-bright girlfriend who is still with him regardless of him cheating, Terri Faye, 23. Alex's two friends Bobby Wallace, 25 and Matthew Carmen, 22 sit with them in the living room. The tv is on and no one wants to talk. Terri announces she has to go visit her cousin. Alex walks her out and then comes back in the house and sits down.]

Alex Graves-So what's going on with you guys?! Neither of you said a word the whole day.

Bobby Wallace-What do you expect us to say? We have nothing nice to say to you or her.

Matthew Carmen-What you did was cruel and stupid to all of us. She's not too bright to catch up on what's going on. Why'd you do it man? I don't know Maria, but my God!

Alex Graves-Maria was starting to bore me. All she wanted to do was work on her ranch, ride her horses and talk.

Bobby Wallace-Welcome to country life man. That's what goes on around here. You told me you didn't want to live in the country, so why did you get involved with a country girl? It doesn't make sense. Country girls are strong and they can handle things well, but I've known Maria through one of my best friends, that if she's really into someone like she was with you, she will be a wreck, but she'll grow up and hate your guts. Just like all the other country girls 'round here, she doesn't take any shit from anyone. She'll throw a punch without thinking twice about it. Before you even blink, you'll be on the ground. And before you even know what happened, she'll be right back on your ass.
