It was a cool summer evening at the end of August. A group of 3 teenage friends were hanging out in the woods. The tallest of the group, at 6'0", was a male named Jack. With a black wolfcut and his bangs covering his eyes, his style was clearly influenced by emo and grunge. He wore a long-sleeved black and purple striped shirt with ripped black jeans, his shoes being dirtied white converse.

The next was another male standing at a total of 5'8". He had the typical male emo cut but his hair was a dark brown. His eyes barely shown underneath his bangs were a pale blue with light eyebags underneath. His style consisted of a lazily thrown-on dark grey hoodie and black jeans. His shoes were high topped converse but were clean, unlike Jack's. His name was James and he was the leader of this trio.

Last but not least was a short female named Mia. She was 5'2" and had a scene haircut, it was various shades of purple and pink. Her outfit was heavily themed after hello kitty with fishnets being thrown about. She had long pink platform boots on and they looked brand new.

"I can't believe this summer went by that fast...It was just yesterday when we started it"! Mia stated with a pout, her left foot-stomping.

Jack laughed and patted her shoulder. "Don't worry! It's going to be our last year! Once it's all over we'll be free! Free from the torment!!"

James sighed and leaned against a tree, the sun already starting to set. Their shadows slowly disappeared as they laughed the night away.

"Alright guys, I think it's time to head home. Don't want Mia's mother to start bothering me". James shoved his hands into his pockets and started trudging towards the street.

"I do! Her mom gives off major milf energy!! Like who knew my best friend's mom could be a hot goth!" Jack laughed before following. Because of how tall he was, his steps were in long strides and he caught up to James very quick.

"You can't talk about her like that!! I don't wanna think of my mom like that guys! That's gross!" Mia jogged to catch up and giggled. Her accessories bounced and made a soft clink against each other.

As they neared the street, they noticed how late it actually had gotten. The street lamps turned on with the dust of the air swirling underneath it.

"I'll walk Mia home. Don't worry James, I'll text you once we're both home. You do the same." Jack started and paused, putting a hand on James's shoulder. "And please stay safe." James had looked back at Jack and smiled smugly. "Will do Jack, as long as you and Mia are too." He then shrugged the hand of Jack's off his shoulder and proceeded to walk in the opposite direction of them.

The silence of the night took over as James walked home, he watched as some street lights flickered. A slight movement caught his eye so he stopped walking, looking without moving his head, he saw nothing there. There was just a bunch of houses and trees around him. He huffed and continued, the coolness of the air shown.

He trudged on and approached his parent's house, the light of the living room on signaling one of them was up. Bringing his key out, he unlocked the door and stepped inside. His mom glared at him before smiling.

"It's your last night out this late, did you enjoy it? How is Jack and Mia?"

"Mom one question at a time. Yes I enjoyed it and they're fine, you'll see them soon." She smiled and ruffled his hair.

"Go to bed now, you gotta start getting up early for school again."

"Yes, mom. Will do." James smiled tiredly and went into his room, locking the door. Before heading to bed, he texted Jack and Mia that his mom said hi. Jack responded with a hi back to his mom and Mia responded with a good night. He changed into a set of plaid pajamas before laying down and struggling to fall asleep. After an hour, he had finally fallen asleep and the day ended.
