The coppery smell of blood never bothered me. But the way it was dripping onto the carpet right now, did make me cringe. Not because of the blood. No because of the nice carpet, that was now ruined. I took one end of the blanket and used it to clean of my bloody knife. The man was still looking at me. His eyes wide open. The look of utter shook, from when I slit his throat, still on his face.
The servants would find him tomorrow and then the news about the now dead judge, wouldn't take too long to get out. After all he was the most known one in town, but also the most corrupt one. The client had to pay a lot for this job to be done. I had to sneak in through the servants house and to get there I had to climb through the sewers. I wouldn't have done that for a few cold coins. But I was one of the most high ranked Assassins in this town, so my clients knew that would get the job done.
But I still had to get all my jobs through my boss. At least until I paid of the debt for my Training. He got me off of the street, put a roof over my head and trained me until I was old enough to go on my first job.I don't remember how I came to live on the streets, where my parents where or where I came from and I didn't care. All I cared about was my next job and to pay back my debt.
As I was standing in his office now, he looked at me and sneered his nose at me. It was probably because I was still covered in blood from the lawyer. I just shrugged my shoulders and sat down at the desk infant of him. With my legs on his desk I grabbed one of those juicy looking green apples and grinned at him while talking a big bite out of the apple.
"Mmmh so what's my reward for crawling through the sewers" I asked with my mouth still full. Now I knew why he was cringing at me. The smell of the sewer must have been clinging to me, but I couldn't smell anything. I must have blended it out while working, but now it hit me. I made a grimace and dropped the apple back onto the desk, as I tried not to throw up.
Caspar dropped a bag of coins, containing my part of the money, on the table and I weighed in my hand. Most of what the client went into Caspar pockets, but I got fifty percent of the money. That might sound fair, but except for making the deal with the clients, Caspar didn't move a finger. Me and the other Assasins were the ones to actually execute the job.
"Okay not to bad" I said looking in to the bag. I could see in Caspar face that he was grossed out by the smell but still tried to make a straight face as he leaned over to me.
"What if I told you, you could make fifty times of what you have in your hand right now."
I sat straight up and looked at him wary.
"Then I would tell you that you are a mad men, because that would be a fortune. I could pay of my debt to you without a second thought and still have plenty of money left to myself."
He laughed and leaned back in his chair again. Now he was the one to put his crossed legs on the desk.
"Well then call me crazy but I have a job for you, that would enable you to that. One last job and all you're debt is paid and your set for life. You could start over, you could build yourself a life, heck you could even start your own Assassin Business as long as you do it somewhere else and don't interfere with me."
I looked at him with narrow eyes.
"And what's the catch?"
"Well you know with a job like that, the client does expect you to do something a little more complicated."
"A kill is a kill. Whats there to be complicated."
"Well the client wants you to kill the Prince" he grinned.
I looked at him for a second and then started laughing.
"Im supposed to kill the prince of Aerillon? This has to be a joke" I kept laughing.
Caspar slammed his fist on the desk and I could feel the vibration of the wood going through my arm.
"Dammit Brynn get yourself together. This is not a joke. This is a once in a lifetime job to make a lot of money for us."
"I know I'm good, probably even the best Assassin you got, but what makes you think I could enter the Castle and kill the Prince."
"Are you going to take the job or not ?"
I thought about it. I thought about freedom, the chance to go wherever I wanted to and I thought about the money that would let me do all that.
"Fine" I said " But how exactly am I supposed to do this?"
Now Caspar was grinning again.
"The Prince is looking for a wife and all the Noble Family's in this country are bringing their daughters there and you are going to sneek in as one of them and seduce him. So that when he finally trust you enough to spend time with you without his guard, you have easy access to put a dagger in his heart."
It would involve a lot more detailed planning, training in acting like a noble person and probably weeks of preparation and prince wooing until I gained his trust, but it did sound like a lot of fun.
I gave Caspar a treacherous grin.
"So when do we start planning?"
