Faith's POV

"Hold the door please!" I yelled as I ran up to the elevator.

A hand shot out to stop the door before it was too late and pushed it back open for me to slide into.

"Thank you." I said to the kind stranger with a soft smile.

"No problem, doll. In a hurry?" The older woman asked.

I shrugged and looked at the watch on my wrist before sighing out. "Unfortunately, yes."

I hit the number for my work floor and take a breath to calm myself.

I don't know what it is about the month of November ending and the month of December starting that has the whole city running around like crazy. The streets were so busy with Christmas shoppers and tourists that finding a taxi to work was unbelievable.

But I guess that's what I get for living in New York year round. New York during summer, fall, and spring, I can handle. But you put me in New York during the holidays and I just about want to kill myself.

The elevator door suddenly dings open onto my floor and I quickly dash out, shouting a goodbye to the lady as I make my way down the cold office hallway.

"Somebody is running late this morning." Darrian smirks at me as I throw my bag onto my desk while rolling my eyes. "You really need to invest in your own car."

I huff out in response while turning on my computer and fixing my hair. "Please tell me how owning my own car would benefit me any easier this time of year?"

He laughs at my words before shrugging, "At least then you wouldn't have to rely on anyone but yourself."

Darrian is my desk buddy. He and I have been friends ever since he started working for the company 4 years ago. He immediately became my office bestie as well as my bestie outside of the office too. He was a saint.

"Miss Brooks, my office." I hear my name being yelled down the hall making me internally groan and roll my eyes.

"He's not in a very good mood either today." Darrian whispers out to me while I grab my notebook off my desk.

"Thanks for the heads up." I say softly as I turn away from the desks and make my way back into the office towards our boss.

Scott Bratcher was a good but firm boss. He was rough when he needed to be, a bit anal at times, but showed great concern for the future of his company. Scott was definitely big headed, and would have never been in the position to run this company had his grandfather not given it to him. He works his employees hard, but understood when a break was needed. Anyone who was anyone knew who he was in the medical world. Scott was the leader in medical sales for hospitals and medical clinics all around the continental U.S.

I, on the other hand, was not well known around the continent. I was just the secretary to the boss. I was the one who made sure that all of Scott's meetings were scheduled, that all of his business affairs were sorted out properly, and that he never had to stress more than what he needed to.

Oh, and I was also his dirty secret.

"Morning, sir." I said sweetly as I knocked on his half opened door.

"Miss Brooks." He said lowly while motioning for me to shut the office door.

Once the door is securely closed I take a deep breath and turn around. Scott is already staring his beady little eyes deep into my soul with no emotion on his face whatsoever.

"Scott" I start off but he holds up a hand to silence me quickly.

The man behind the desk takes a deep breath before motioning for me to take a seat at the chairs in front of his desk. I hurry to my place as I watch him run his fingers through his short hair before sighing loudly again.
