Once it was morning, I announced my departure towards Ingrassia. Their worries were justified, but I assured them I was safe. After all, with Ranga and Phil on my side, I shouldn't be too worried about anything.
The Kaval Trio were the ones assigned to take me to Blumund. The plan was to become an Adventurer at the Guild there, so I'd have a passport to get to Ingrassia.
As we arrived in Blumund, I signed up as an Adventurer in the category of Monster Slaying. Anyone could hear the surrounding crew doubting me, but I had the trio's approval, so they somewhat believed in me.
Though I guess the way I look doesn't help.
Soon, the examiner, named Thegis, arrived. Kaval explained he's been jealous ever since they became famous.
The exam went pretty smoothly despite the examiner trying to screw me over by making me fight threats higher than the actual level. Once I got to the B-class test, he thought it was a good idea to summon a lesser demon, which quickly broke free of his control.
Mere sword swings wouldn't work on an entity like this. Still, a simple coating in magicules did the trick to kill it.
The witnesses, who had come to watch me do my exam to stave off their own boredom, were speechless with my abilities.
I could see Phil, or one of his crows at least, look intently into the demon's body. Not sure why though.
Once Fuze got wind of this though... Whoo, did he go to town lecturing us about how we were supposed to "lie low."
Though his inputs were valuable, especially the ones about my way of killing the demon. Well, you live and learn.
Before I could leave though, he had an intriguing message for me.
"Actually, Sir Rimuru, the King of Blumund wanted to have a talk with you, confidentially."
Word of my arrival must have reached his ears by now, I suppose. He asked for the meeting to be held in three days' time.
Before that, I got to meet baron Veryard to set up the itinerary for our discussion. We settled on a joint security agreement and open borders between the two nations.
Oh, how I had been tricked.
When we actually went through with the agreement and signed the papers, it dawned on me what Blumund was actually afraid of.
A new trading route would certainly upset Farmus, and the Eastern Empire was a thing.
Veryard gave me a shit-eating grin as he greeted me. I couldn't even be truly mad. That was great deceit from his part.
But no one said anything about not being petty.
So I brought a High Potion trade onto the table. I felt real pleasure in seeing the baron's smug expression drop in absolute disbelief at the miracles of a Full Potion as I healed Thegis, the examinee from my test, who ditched his prosthetic leg once my medicine had its effect.
With the trade set up, I finally got ready to leave Blumund and head to Ingrassia.
On the way there, me and Phil had a small talk.
"So, how was it being fooled by the baron?"
"You knew and didn't tell me?"
He was laughing at my reaction.
"Relax, it's not that bad. I doubt the Eastern Empire and the Western Nations are as scary as everyone makes them out to be. Guy's probably the worst you could get, and given your level of growth you'll probably be able to stand on the same ground as him in about two years."
