Chapter 5: Cruel Game and Aftermath

Everyone froze more, if that was possible. It felt as if the world paused, until...

"Green light!"

You didn't know if it was fear driving you, or something else, but you ran forwards. 

"Red Light!"

You froze, and glanced towards the body. Someone was near it, trying to talk.

"Hey, this isn't funny. Get up. Please," they said. There was no response, but you could see blood pooling below the body. Upon noticing it, the stranger stumbled backwards, and another shot rang out.

BANG!

Their body also fell, and you could hear screaming. Some people in front of you ran backwards, and they fell too. You stood frozen, trying to process what happened. Shots kept ringing out, and you felt something knock you over. You closed your eyes, expecting to die, too, but everything went silent.

"Green light!"

You sat there, frozen. You saw the thing that had knocked you over, and it was a body. 

"Red Light"

You didn't have time to process things until it was called again.

"Y/N," you heard a voice say. You didn't look over, unable to move, but you could tell it was Jin-ho. "You need to get up. You can't stay there..."

"Green Light!"

And he was gone. You struggled to get up and started running forwards. You careful ran over any obstacles that came in your way. You could see both Jin-ho and 292 far ahead of you. You noticed they were hiding behind other people.

"Red Light!"

Everyone froze again. 

"Oi, Y/N." Oh no... it was Billbert.

"What do you want?" you hissed, staying frozen.

"We should work together. No'body can stop us if we dae" he said, "If thou join me, I will forgive y'r debts."

"I would rather die," you snapped back. 

Just thin, a shot rang out and a guy next to you fell to the floor.

"Are thou sure about that," he laughed.

"Yes. I would rather end up like that guy than team up with a pathetic little British man like you-"

"Green Light!" You were cut off by the announcement.

"Whistle and flute yourself, Y/N" he attempted to trip you when you ran forwards, but you spun around and kicked him. He fell to the floor and laid there, not moving.

You got closer and closer to the finish line. until...

"Red Light!"

You saw that your two allies had made it over the finish line. You were sure you could make it on the next call. You moved your eyes over towards the clock, making sure your body did not move. 1 minute left...

"Green light!"
You dashed to the finish line, sliding like a baseball player across the line.

"Y/N!" Jin-ho called. He ran up to you and hugged you, shaking. He didn't seem too shaken up by it earlier, and neither did you. But now... You started crying a little. What the hell was this? How could somebody do this. Jin-ho let go of you and sighed. "We need to get out of here..."

You turned around and saw more people running over, including Billbert. Unfortunately, he made it.

The game finally ended, and the rest of the failing players were "eliminated."

The rest of the time melted into a blur. You were escorted back to the room with all of the beds.

You leaned against a wall. 292 and Jin-ho were talking, but you weren't listening. You were still trying to process what just happened. Some people were screaming at the guards, but you weren't paying attention to what they were saying either. In a few hours, things calmed down, and people were off in their own areas, defeated.

"Players, please gather for a meal," The announcement voice rang out. Everyone lined up. You were one of the first people because you were hungry. You haven't had anything to eat for a day...

The meal shocked you when you saw it. It was a LUNA® bar and a coffee... The same meal that you had every morning. Weird...

You sat with Jin-ho and 292. Occasionally, you could see one of the guards looking at you while you ate. You waved at them and he waved back.

It was time for you to sleep. However, you weren't tired. You were pacing around, and suddenly you felt a hand on your shoulder. You turned around and saw a square guard.

"Y/N?" he asked... It was the same guard that you insulted earlier. "We need to talk."
