She looks out the window, knowing that the rain would put a stop to seeing anything important, she knows that if she stays at the window then she'll fall asleep there again. She pulls herself up, planning on slowly trudging to her bedroom but she hears her mother in the kitchen, probably making another cake, that's all she's doing anymore, she makes a cake, leaves it out for someone to eat and when no one does (we're all sick of cake these days) she throws it away and makes another one.

As she walks past the window she hears a lightning strike hit the road outside, making her jump, she looks out through the window, looking for something, but once again she is disappointed to see that nothing is outside.

She makes her way to the stairs, pulling herself up them slowly, listening for some sign of a car or anything on the driveway outside. She calls out to her mother "goodnight mum." with no reply coming from the kitchen. She walks through her door and flips on the light. She grabs her favorite book off the bedside table and turns to the page she is up to. As she reads the time flies by, suddenly an hour has gone by, then two, then three, and at eleven forty three precisely she hears a knock on the door outside, knowing her mother insistently refuses to answer the door, she trudges down the stairs to get the door for whoever it was, but as she walked to the stairs, she heard the door open. Looking at the time she thinks to herself "my brother can't be awake at this time of night." And just as the thought hits her, a gunshot sound rings up the stairs, at this point she stops moving, hoping that it wasn't what she thought it was. As she looks down the stairs she see's her brother lying on the floor a bullet hole in his head. Her mother is screaming trying to crawl to her now dead son. The man who shot her brother then turns the gun to her mother, telling her to beg for her life, she doesn't, refusing to give in. That was her last breath. As the bullet left the chamber of the gun, our hero runs for the window on the second floor jumping through it as it is always left open, she climbs down the tree and runs to her neighbors house to call the police. She bangs on the door desperately trying to get them to hear her, as the door opens she burst into tears trying to tell the entire story in between sobs and breaths, telling about the man and the gun and how her mother and brother were both dead. Her neighbors instantly dialed 0-0-0 and asked for the police, not to long later sirens could be heard from down the street.
