It was a somber morning, the two kingdoms that coincided with each other were battling again as they kept their sons locked in their castles to keep them out of the battlefield. This is where the story starts, but first, details should be spoken.
The fathers of each kingdom told their sons that because of the daily fights, the grass in both kingdoms was dead and the only few blades of grass that made their way out of the wasteland were drowning in blood, it was the only sustenance that the plants ever got there since it barely rained. The clouds usually covered the sun, only a few rays being able to shine through the dark smoke-colored clouds. Even for the two kingdoms being called opposites, one being considered the 'Light' Kingdom and the other being considered the 'Dark' Kingdom, both were rather gloomy, both just trying their best to be a Utopian when they are far from it.
A small sigh escaped the light prince's mouth, staring out the window with his dull green eyes, twirling his natural blonde hair with one finger, the other one being his only support as he leaned a bit out the window. "Why won't father let me outside...?" The prince had pondered to himself. It was true, his father had never let him go outside once in his life, the only times he could see the outside was through a small barred window in his room, it upset him to his core. Was it so hard to stop fighting with an opposing kingdom once for his son? He had asked himself that so many times, he had asked his father that so many times! But, all his words were always silenced by his father.
"Keegan!" A feminine voice called from down the hall, it was his mother. "Coming mummy!" Keegan had yelled back, quickly rushing out his mahogany door and down the white carpeted hallway, before making it to the kitchen where his mom was standing there in her elegant emerald green dress. She turned from the stovetop towards her son, "How was your rest hon?" She asked with a kind smile plastered on her lips. Keegan had sighed, "It was... fine, could do without the constant battles though.."
The Queen's smile faded, "Oh... I have been meaning to talk to your father about that, but I haven't been able to get a word out about it due to his spontaneous preparation for his next battle with the other Kingdom. I'll try and talk with him today if that's alright?" She said, her frown going back to a smile as she waited for her son to confirm that he was fine with that arrangement. Keegan paused for a bit before he did a nod, "Alright! I have one more question..."
"What is it, my dear?" The Queen was setting out some plates on the table for dinner as she asked this. "Do you think... you may be able to try and arrange for me to go outside as well? I don't believe I have ever been out and I want to be able to see the world, not just behind bars of small windows, mummy." Keegan had said, sitting down at the table his mother had just finished preparing. "Oh... that's something I can not promise dear, the outside world hasn't been all too nice after all the battles between your father and the opposing King have started. Even I don't think we should let you outside, this type of world shouldn't be one for a young kid like you to explore." She had said, despite Keegan being the age of 17, she still referred to him as a young kid. She had carried a pot full of rice over while they were conversing, using a wooden spoon to shovel a good amount on both their plates.
"Father not eating again?" Keegan had asked once he noticed the lack of a third plate, his Mother just nodding, "Yeah, it's such a shame since I made his favorite today, he told me he'd eat after the next battle though. As long as he's healthy and happy, then I am too." The Queen replied. She had then gotten a tray, setting it in the middle of the table. On top of the tray was a glistening brown roasted pheasant, Her Highness got a wooden carving fork and used it to pull some of the white meat off of the Pheasant, placing it next to the perfectly soft rice, repeating the same for her plate.
"If you want any after you finish your meal, feel free to take extras, just make sure to save some for your father hon." She had sat down, eating her meal in silence. Keegan was just poking at his food with his fork, if he was being honest, his appetite wasn't there much, all he wanted was to feel nature on his feet, it was the only thing on his mind. "Oh, are you not hungry dear?" The Queen asked, a little concerned by this. "Hm? Not all that much, is it fine if I eat later?" Keegan replied, his mother sighing yet nodding, "I'll put your food away, for now, just don't forget that it's here when you're hungry."
Keegan nodded as he then scooted his chair back before getting up, rushing right out the kitchen and down the stairs in a careful yet swift way to ensure he didn't fall. Once he was down he had entered the living room, slightly eyeing the front door with a sigh. "Father wouldn't know if I went out for a few seconds... right?" Keegan had muttered to himself, mentally he was still thinking about leaving, but subconsciously he was taking steps, one by one, to the front door. "Yeah... just a few seconds can't hurt!" He exclaimed before rushing to the door and throwing it open.
Low and behold, as soon as he did, he was met with a silhouette looming over him. "Keegan?" A low yet serious voice boomed in Keegan's ears, Keegan instantly shrinking in response. "F-Father!" Keegan choked out, stumbling back as his father stepped closer, the King's face is menacingly illuminated by the light. "What did I tell you about leaving the castle?" He had asked, raising his tone of voice as he threw his arm out from underneath his royal mantle. Keegan had flinched, making himself stand straight as he inhaled, "Never.... Never leave the castle unless I'm dying daddy.." Keegan stated, his lips curled into a frown
The King scoffed, "Up to your room this instant! I do not want to see you near this door again! You hear me boy?" He bellowed, Keegan wanting to protest but The King had had enough of this and stomped his royal scepter on the hard wooden floor of the palace which signifies 'Be Quiet This Instant', which, Keegan instantly shut his mouth from. His bottom lip was quivering as he held back any tears he wanted to let out since princes should never show any sign of weakness, especially toward their father.
Keegan let out any breath he had been holding onto before he turned and rushed back up the stairs he had once excitingly run down, fists clenched into a tight ball. He slammed his bedroom door, the door letting out a loud sound as he walked over to his bed, climbing on it, the mattress heaving as he did so. "It's not fair!" Keegan hollered to himself, him leaning his head back in his pillow. "I heard that the other kingdom has a son... I wonder if he's ever allowed outside his castle.." Keegan muttered, turning to his side as he threw the duvet over him
"I hope tomorrow's better.." Keegan whispered to himself before letting his eyes fall shut, drifting into slumber.
