Beams of light dappled onto the mahogany floor through the old, splintered blinds. This sight greeted you every weekday, the 6:30am sun was truly beautiful: it certainly juxtaposed the sight that was presented to you in the mirror. Bedhead. Stumbling towards your desk, half asleep, you reached out for your phone - almost knocking over a large pile of books, almost. You seriously had to get a shelf or something, it was beginning to look like a mad man's laboratory with books scattered around everywhere. Putting the thought to one side, you picked up your hair supplies and sat in front of the mirror.

After doing your hair, getting changed was next on your agenda. Eyeing the myriad of t-shirts in your closet, you chose a lavender t-shirt and then nearly fell over putting on a pair of black jeans. Alas, you put on your socks and Doc Martens, had to represent the gays after all.

You mentally cursed yourself for setting your alarm so early. Yes, if it had been any later you would be late - but does that really matter on the first Monday back after the summer? You jogged down the stairs, skipping steps as you went, and bent down to pick up your bag before leaving the house.

Usually, students at North Shore High got the bus or walked. Not you. You had to drive for an hour assuming there was no traffic, but it was all worth it as you could go to waffle house on your way back on Fridays.

As you saw your old, crimson truck on the driveway, you grinned. It was your dads car back when he was a teenager, he said he couldn't bring himself to scrap it: too many memories. Slipping into the truck, you ran your hand across the démodé blanket that was enfolded over the large, singular, leather seat - it was out-of-fashion, sure, but it was amazing. It was reminiscent of those 80's rainbow dip-dye t-shirts.

You unlocked your phone to check the time, it was 7:20. Forthwith, you slotted your keys into the car and drove off of the driveway, cranking up the music as you did.

Time Skip An Hour

At 8:29 you pulled into the parking lot behind school, it was predominately empty bar parents dropping off their kids - only you and Janis drove to school everyday. You and Janis had been friends for about a year now! Damien introduced you to her and since then you always sat at their table for lunch. You admired her passion for art almost as much as you admired her: but you wouldn't tell her that.

You wish you could confess your feelings to her.

Your reverie came to a halt as you heard knocking against your car window. Your eyes immediately bolted up but they were greeted with the sight of Janis, you became worried that she caught you vacantly staring at your steering wheel, thinking of her. You decided to stop worrying and just get out of the car before this staring match between you and her got weird.

Janis spoke first.

"Hey Y/N! You good?.."

"Yeah, sorry I'm just tired," you said, smiling to reassure her.

"Want my coffee? It tastes kinda rank but you'd probably like it," Janis grinned, knowing you'd drink any type of coffee - even if it tasted like battery acid.

"You know me too well, Sarkisian," you responded, taking the half empty cup of coffee. In response, Janis playfully punched your shoulder as you two began walking towards the entrance of your hellish high school.

Right on que, the buses began to arrive and Damien hopped off and skipped over to you two.

"Heyyyyy!" Damien greeted very joyfully, he was smiling from ear to ear.

You and Janis shared a look. Half confused, half not. He was typically in a joyous mood but today a little more than usual.

"What happened?" you asked.

"Oh, nothing... It's not like I'm meeting Ryan after school," Damien said, trying to hide his excitement as he put on an act.

"What?! Why didn't message the groupchat straightaway?" questioned Janis.

"I thought it'd be more exciting if I broke it to you guys face to face!"

"Well, it certainly is more exciting" you quipped, giggling as the three of you began to walk up the steps to school. Suddenly the thought of school didn't seem so hellish, as long as you were with your best friends...
