Home Stretch | Part I - Journey to the Safe Zone

The winter-chilled water stole the heat from his unsuspecting muscles, making the flesh bump and buckle. As if in a dream dreaming, the kind where you're walking up stairs that lie to you about their ability to hold your weight, imagined G-forces pressed against his body as it plummeted.

The space around him was unfamiliar and empty, as though he was born again, unaware of the world yonder and the danger he was presently in. The sound of motors backfiring invaded the young male's ears. They were amplified, as if they were happening outside the glass of a fish bowl. And the water?

It took seconds for Harry's lungs to fill with the foreign substance, causing his body to convulse violently as it tried to reject what it had inhaled. Deprived of visual senses, the young male's heart was a jackhammer in his ears. A comforting feeling, since its absence could mean something tragic and sensationally out of body.

On instinct, he raised his head, trying to find where gravity was pressing down on him. The subtle lap of the waters surface concluded to him, that way was up.

His energy draining, similar to a phone battery when an urgent call needed to be made, Harry pushed himself up. His abdomen resisted considerably. Why wasn't it bending the why it did before? Stabs of pain lacerated him on his left side, the image of splintered timber entered his mind.

The instant the drowning man allowed the thought of his demise to enter his mind, an image of y/n replaced it. Her expression was one of turmoil, voice strained to its limit, belting out his name in a quavered tone that fractured his heart upon recalling it.

Forgetting his broken ribs, and the water weighing down his chest, Harry continued to fight. He couldn't allow himself to think such things. Not at a time like this.
