"Y/n!" I hear my mom call as she walks up the stairs.

"Yes?" I respond as I peek my head out of my closet and see her standing in my doorway.

"Make sure you bring your bags down so your father can pack them in the car, we're leaving in an hour."

"Okay, I'll bring 'em down in a bit." I say as I pack some folded clothes into the open suitcase lying on my bed.

~~~
I hop out of the car as I hear Max call my name from the porch of our rented lake house, stretching my legs from being stuck in the car for 3 hours.
"Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god!" She says as she skips towards me enthusiastically. "1. I can't wait for the new season of stranger things tomorrow, and 2. I think I've gotten confirmation Marcus likes you." She blurts out as we start walking towards the house.
"Wait what!?" I reply, stopping dead in my tracks. "He likes me..?"
"Yeah and I think he's like planning on asking you out tomorrow night during the firework display." She says. "Anyway, let's go pick our rooms." She continues, dragging me towards the house and changing the subject.
"Okay so I'm thinking after the fireworks we get some popcorn and binge the new season tonight." Max says as we're sitting by the lake waiting for the fireworks to start while Marcus walks over to us.
"Hey Y/n." He says sitting down next to us. "Max," Marcus starts, turning his attention to her. "mom wants you to help unpack the food from the van."
"Ugh, fine." She says getting up. "I'll be right back."
We sit in silence until he speaks up.
"So," He says, tapping his shoes. "you excited for the fireworks?" He asks, tilting his head towards me.
"Yup. I love fireworks." I say smiling.
"Yeah?" He says as he chuckles and smiles a little.
"Um duh. Who doesn't? Please don't tell me you don't..."
"Oh no, I love fireworks." He defends.
"Cool." I say smiling.
"Cool."
"Oh hey look." I say pointing at the darkening sky. "They're starting!"
We look up at the sky as the fireworks start shooting up out of nowhere in particular. The bright colors lighting up the sky.
"Wow." I say, staring up at the sudden, bright, mesmerizing moving sparks.
"What..." I say laughing lightly, noticing Marcus smiling down at me.
"Nothing." He responds, turning his gaze back towards the sky. "There's just something I've been wanting to tell you..."
"Shoot." I say, turning away from the pretty lights and giving him my full attention.
"So there's been something on my mind for a while now and I've been overthinking it for quite some time so... I'm just gonna spit it out already. Y/n..."
"Yeah...?" I respond, narrowing my eyes towards him.
"...I like you." He blurts out. "Like... a lot. Like more than friends. And ya' know I don't know if you feel this too. Like everything that's been going on between us... And I totally get it if you don't feel the same but... I thought I'd test out my luck...?"
"Marcus..." I say, smiling a little.
"You know what. It's whatever. If you don't like me-" He starts, before I cut him off with a kiss.
"Wow..." He says as we pull apart, a smile forming across his face. "Very bold of you."
"Yeah... wow. I mean I didn't think I would actually kiss you. I was kinda just thinking it but then it happened and-" I say, starting to talk a little faster before he cuts me off with another kiss.
