The Elementals

Prologue

Nine years ago,
Delta State
"Wake up son" a woman whispered softly to a light brown boy with dark hair. The boy looked very cute asleep, barely above ten. The woman who was shrouded only in black gently tapped the boy.
Across the boy lay another boy who looked like a clone of the first. The first boy turned and opened his eyes. In the dim light of the fire torch his mother held, his eyes shone a bright red.
"Mom?" He questioned sleepily rubbing his eyes. "shh!" his mom said putting her hand to his mouth. She stood and beckoned for him to follow her. He got out of the bed wearing Superman pyjamas, his dark hair partly covering his face and did as she told. She led him through the corridor and suddenly opened a secret passage. "where are we going Mom?" the boy asked curiously "I've never seen this passage in the palace before." "You have to leave the palace now" his Mom said brokenly.
The news hit the boy like a bomb, he stopped dead in his tracks and looked at his mom. "Another training course?" He asked with his head down and his voice on the verge of tears. "No" his mom said softly. He looked up and saw pain in his mother's eyes"why?" "your father wants to kill you" the words came out soft but penetrated the very core of his soul. "Did I offend dad? Why does he want to kill me? What of Jay? Is he going to kill him too?" the questions came out fast.
His mother knelt down and cupped his face in her hands and looked at the son she had trained and brought to be strong. She had always favored her elder twin son over his younger twin. " It's because you are the Alpha. It has been prophesied that you would kill him for being the Alpha and he prefers his selfish ambition over his own flesh and blood" the last part came out in disgust. "But I didn't choose to be the Alpha. I never wanted any of this. And why would I kill my own father? Does Dad think I would really kill him because of what a flimsy book said?" the pain was really visible in his eyes and his voice broke. His mom held him close, allowing him to soak her clothes with tears.
"What did I do to deserve this? Why does Dad hate me? I didn't ask to be the Alpha, I never wanted it." the boy wept as his mom squeezed him, desperately trying not to cry. "I'm sorry sweetie" she said pulling him to face her. She searched his face and said" That is why you need to leave right now.". He nodded finally understanding the situation at hand. His mother seemed pleased at his understanding. "How long am I suppose to hide?" He asked quietly.
"

I don't know sweetheart" she replied wiping a tear from his eyes. "Are you coming with me?" he asked again." I can't..." she said turning away"your father needs me in the palace. I can't leave the kingdom without a queen" She quickly turned back and gave him a weak smile"but you'll be safe. You are the bravest, strongest, smartest and cutest boy I have ever known. It hurts me that no one can follow you on this journey my son. You just have to be brave. If anyone finds out about your disappearance, I may be killed but at least I saved my son's life."
And then she stooped down and hugged him tightly." Be brave my son and know that no one can ever stop the light that shines in you. I already packed a few things for you. They are at the end of the tunnel. You need to leave right now."

And she pushed the little boy farther down the passage. He walked a little more and stopped. He looked back at his mom for probably the last time in his life and said "I love you momma." "I love you too my son". And he walked away; into the darkness of the tunnel, never to be seen again.

*Hey guys, I'm very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very sorry. I haven't been able to update the story like I had promised you I would. This is actually suppose to be the beginning of the book but I forgot about it. I hope you guys can forgive me.

Anyway, what is your take on the boy and his mother? I purposely left out their names to add to the "mystery" of the book. Do you think he will ever see his mom again? Actually, I almost cried while writing this chapter (yeah it was really touchy :) ). What would you do if your own dad tried to kill you just because of a prophecy?
