Part One: The Morning

It all started last Tuesday. The day of Victor F. Jackson's death. He was in a pretty good mood that afternoon. It was his niece's birthday. He had walked to the local supermarket to buy some supplies for a special dessert that his niece loved. It was a very dreary, wet day so Victor had put on his rubber boots. He waved to his neighbor as he walked into his driveway.

Victor was a very unusual man. He lived a very quiet life. In fact, after his death, they didn't hold a funeral. They just buried him and left. That was how frightening he was. He was a tall slim man with pale skin and dark brown hair. He always wore a suit. Black and gray with different stains all over. Only one pocket, half ripped, if he tried to put anything in it it just slipped out the hole. If it was a nice day he would wear his black, scuffed dress shoes with white stitching and ribbon. It was slipper-ish, what some people would know as a moccasin. On rainy days he wore dulled yellow rain boots made out of plastic, maybe some form of rubber.

As he arrived home he realized he forgot to get the mail. As he walked down to the corner he saw a small child, wearing some sort of green sash. He put his glasses on. It was a Boy Scout. "Hi-hello, sir?" "Could I interest you in a, um, let's see..." he checked his clipboard. "Maybe some popcorn?" he stuttered out. Victor bent down. "How much does it cost little man." he said in a voice as deep as the Atlantic. He made direct eye contact with the child. "Um, 10 dollars sir..." Victor stood back up, breaking the tension between their eyes. He looked in his wallet. "How about this..." he bent back down. "How about I give you $15 and you give me one bag. You get a $5 tip." he stood up and smiled at the boy. Victor had pure white teeth that could cut through metal. When he was a child his brother had sworn that he was a vampire. I mean, it did seem plausible. he was tall, had sharp, long teeth, and had a piercing stare. Most children would swear that he was a monster.
