In the year 1890, December 1st in Germany, the day we first met. We were both sitting under the willow tree of the winter day. We were 8 back then, teasing and playing around in the snow until we became friends.
Being with you is the happiest day of my life, like spending my 30 days, feels like 30 years with you. With you who shares his own childhood days with me. I thought we're going to be like this for so long, but I was wrong.
After 30 days at the Train station, I saw him standing in front of the train bustling with its smoke and honking its horn. I was about to go straight to the train when he saw a glimpse of me running towards him. I stopped in front of him. I was out of breath as he held out his hand giving the necklace with a snowflake pendant and utter, "Monica, keep this necklace as a promise that we will meet again in the same willow tree where we first met." he said that to me with a warm smile. I took it out from his hands and held it into my chest. I eventually said that "I will, Hans," looking at him with a smile. Afterward, the train honks up and the train conductor yells, "all aboard!". Simultaneously, I put the necklace in my pocket and told him that the train was about to leave. He shows me his pinky finger and I do the same to swear as a sign to keep our promise together. A promise that we will meet again. I look at him one last time as he was entering the train. He suddenly stop at the door and look at me, "Until we meet again, Monica. I love you!" And that was the last time we see each other...
14 years later, the year 1904, on the 1st day of December. I was sitting under the willow tree of the same winter day as we promised. Waiting to see him again after he left to study in London. Every day I always remember the promises we made together. Every day I keep wishing to see him again as we promised. Every day of every year.
After a long time of waiting for him to show up, I close my eyes and count one to ten. Wishing him to fulfill our promise and imagine him as a handsome guy as he was. Eventually, I didn't notice that someone was approaching and sat down right next to me where I unconsciously whispered, "I count one to ten, so I can tell you how much I miss you..." Someone suddenly responded, "I miss you too, Monica..." a whisper I hear near to my ear. I jump out off the bench and look at the person who was sitting on the bench next to me. It was him, Hans, the person who I kept missing with. As I look at him, he is the same guy as I remember when we were kids. I cried and hugged him. "Finally," I say as he hugged me back...tightly.
