In this essay I will be explaining the reason I believe the Hermitcraft fandom is so respectful of the creators' boundaries compared to the Dreamsmp fandom. A major reason for this is how distinct the creators' make their minecraft character from their actual selves. I personally always find it jarring when I see the hermits' real faces because of how different I believe they are. They're internet personalities and the actual person has been made so different and the line between it is so clear. Something that helps this I think is the fact that most hermits rarely use face cam while doing hermit craft videos or any other smp they might be involved in such as 3rd life or last life. Another factor would also be that most if not all content they produce is Minecraft based, all the hermit craft content is based solely around Minecraft which ads depth to the world and makes it more focused on it lore wise. They do a brilliant job in making the game mechanics part of the lore which makes the experience all the more immersive to watch. The hermit craft fandom is also way more peaceful and considerate than the dreamsmp fandom, a reason for this could be the fact that it's a way smaller fandom as well compared to the dsmp. The fandom, although it shares collectively only a single braincell, is all the more mature than the collective dream amp fandom. This is not to say that the entire dsmp fanbase is horrible, but there are a lot more parts of weird people in this fandom as compared to hermitcraft. I realise I have spoken pretty negatively about the dreamsmp fandom and just to clarify this means no hate to the amazing people I've met in this fandom or the talented creators, I myself am part of the fandom but the need to highlight the problematic part of this community is also incredibly necessary; and I'll be honest it was not a fair comparison to do with the hermit craft community as it is a lot less popular than the dreamsmp and obviously will have a lesser chance to have problematic people but I do believe the content produced by the creators in hermit craft itself is such that it would attract less haters as well. I believe the hermit craft fandom is seriously underrated and under appreciated and I definitely believe it deserves exposure, but I also worry that this could cause more problematic fans to also filter in. I do hope that this friendlier side of the Minecraft community stays as peaceful it is while also getting the recognition it deserves.
