Chapter 1

Demis POV

I watched as everyone around me chatted happily, while I sat with one headphone blasting “Wings” by Macklemore. My head bowed down so I would not have to be looking hungrily towards the plates of greasy, oily and fried food everyone had.  When would sel be here? She needs to get here now. I need my best friend here to distract me, and no one could do it better than sel.

Yeah you probably guessed it, but I guess its not something that others would take lightly so that is why no body at all knows my little secret, I am anorexic, and bulimic, I also suffer from self harm. I knew sel would freak if she found out and would become a lot more protective than she already was, but that’s how we were. Protective of each others feelings and being the others “better half”, (In a sister like manner of course). Selena was the only person that actually got me and knew how to make me laugh and smile when all I wanted to do was cry, we never kept secrets from each other, and that’s why I felt so bad about self harming before I came, which resulted in me having to wear a jumper, on a 30 degree summer day.

My thoughts were interrupted by the song on my iPod changing and the taunts and jeers of the people around me in the mall, all of them commenting on me being a “Loser” and “Fat shit”. Yes I also got bullied on a day to day basis. But since I had been friends with Selena it hadn’t affected me as bad, I only needed Selena’s opinion of me to be a good one, and due to us being best friends, I had a feeling it was pretty good. Just as my mind began to become lost in thought I was tackled from the behind which brought with it a soft giggle. I knew that sounds from anywhere and my mouth stretched into a Cheshire cat grin as I turned around to face my best friend.

“Sel! Dude I’ve missed you so so much” I yelled into our tight hug.

“I know Dem’s I’ve missed you to! How did I even survive the last 3days without you!” She replied referring to the trip she had taken up to California on the long weekend.

We released from our tight embrace and I looked at what she wore. She was wearing short short’s revealing her tanned and slim legs accompanied by her “Bintang” singlet which I had given to her after a trip i had been on to Bali. Her hair was curled slightly and bounced on her shoulders as she studied my outfit consisting of short shorts and a long sleeved jumper, which not only cover up my cuts but also the weight I had recently lost. We smiled at each other and then again jumped into another hug. I loved Selena’s hugs, because she got me. I noticed though that her hands were around my stomach and she was giving me a harder hug than usual. I pulled away and held her at shoulders length noticing her small frown.

“Sel what’s up?

“Don’t worry i-I’m sure it’s nothing” She said uncertainly, nodding her head more to herself than me.

I mirrored that small frown and she quickly wiped it off my face by grabbing one of my dangling headphones and placing it in her own ear. She nodded her head along to the rhythm as she began walking off to get some lunch. We made small talk until I noticed she had stopped walking and we were now stationed outside of a KFC chain in a small, yet fast moving line. She grabbed out her wallet and consciously counted her change, double checking she had enough for a small meal, she then zipped up her coin compartment and looked up expectantly at me after noticing I had not taken any effort to do the same.

“Dem’s are you going to get something here or would you rather we go to a different shop, or maybe we could go to” she mumbled hurridly before I interrupted her rambling session.

“No, I already ate before you got here, besides I’m out of money now” I replied in a monotone.

She looked at me sceptically before turning away to give her order to a pimply faced 16 year old, I noticed his eyes wandering over her hungrily, however just like all male attention she got, she was oblivious to it. I stepped up behind her and coughed loudly to regain his attention on her order, before standing back as far away from the food as I could get. I glared at the boy from the counter as I waited for her to come over. She eventually dawdled over taking a backwards glance at the boy as she smirked and confidently winked at him. I scoffed when i realised she was teasing him and leading him on.
