Rita was in the shower when she heard a knock on the door. "Just a minute." She called. She quickly wrapped a towel around herself and went to open the door. She looked through the peephole to see Ricky anxiously waiting there. "Shit." she whispered to herself as she jumped around in a circle not knowing what to do.
"I'll just be a minute." Rita called again.
She went into her room re-did her messy bun and put her dressing gown on.
She unlocked the door. "Hi, what are you doing here?" Rita asked.
"We need to talk about what happened earlier." Ricky told her.
"Yeah I agree. It was a total one time thing and can't happen again. I'm sorry it was all my fault. I hope we can still be friends Ricky."
"Yes of course we can. Like you said it was a one time thing. But please can we not mention it to anyone?"
"That works for me, but doesn't Will already know?"
"I don't know. I think he just assumes things. Lesley's here. So please don't say anything to her because I don't want anything to go wrong between us. I love her."
Hearing those words broke Rita's heart. Not because it wasn't her that Ricky loved, it was because her boyfriend had just broke up with her. A stray tear rolled down her face. "Are you OK?" Ricky asked. "Is it something I said?"
"Yeah, I'm sorry. It's nothing to do with you, it's just knowing that other people still have relationships that work. But Ricky left me and I don't know why and everything's just going wrong. And..." Ricky knew Rita had something playing on her mind and it was really getting to her.
"I'm here if you need to talk."
"No, no I'm fine honestly. You need to get back to Lesley and I just need think over some things."
"Lesley can wait. You need a friend right now and you've got me. So what is it Rita? What's eating you away inside?"
"I'll let you have one guess."
"Ricky?"
"You're good at this game."
Rita poured out all her feelings about her ex boyfriend whilst Ricky listened to every single thing she said. When she finished she said "For a guy, you're a really good listener!"
"You sound surprised?" Ricky laughed.
"Well, you know, most guys aren't good listeners and would much rather talk."
"Well I'm not like most guys." Ricky winked.
Rita smiled.
