Epilogue 1

It was silent. There was nothing threatening us overhead like before, and the silence was overwhelming. None of us had had this freedom from darkness in years since Voldemort rose again. Personally, I didn’t feel free at all. The weight of all the deaths we had suffered was killing me inside. I don’t know how I would have coped if it hadn’t been for one person in particular.

Harry. In the end, he was the one who had kept me going this whole time. He was the reason I had stayed strong against the Death Eaters and taught others to do the same. He had no idea that he had done so much for me, but I had to tell him. One thing I’ve learnt in the past year is that life is short and unpredictable. There was no time to hide things from anybody.

I wandered around the destroyed hallways of Hogwarts, lost in my thoughts, when I walked into the exact person whose company I was craving.

“Harry!” I exclaimed. He smiled and held his hand out to me, helping me off the ground. His messy black hair was sticking up as if he had been running his fingers through it constantly, and his green eyes looked aged and pained, like he had seen and done things no teenager ever should. It was the first time I had seen him up close and alone since he had left.

I stared into Harry’s eyes, and felt like I had found all the answers to every question or query I had in the last year. Being away from him was hard, but I only just realised how hard it was.

Without wasting time searching for the right words, I leant in and kissed Harry. In that exact moment, I knew what happiness was.
