trigger warnings for everything steve's arc involves— war, death, scars, fighting, trauma, nightmares, gunshot wounds, etc.
the steve i'm writing out a personality and backstory for is steve pretty fresh out of the ice— probably soon after the avengers (2012). obviously, he grows to trust the avengers later, but that comes with a lot of chemistry and time for character development. this is one of my favorite versions of steve to write as— the distrustful, high-strung captain who doesn't understand the 2000s and hasn't yet learned to open up because he was never taught how to. i find this the most interesting part of steve's character arc. so just a fair warning.

several across his fingers and hands from figuring out how to throw and catch the shield, two small nicks across his eyebrow and on his cheekbone from getting in fights, several cuts from knives and old gunshot wounds in his chest, stomach, arms and legs, one notable stab wound above his collarbonepersonality
on the outside, steve represents what every american wants to be. he's brave, polite, charismatic, coolheaded, and has a kind smile. but this is only the side he shows to the public. inside, he's terrified and confused by this new, futuristic world, and aches with guilt and longing for the world he came from. he relies on tony and pepper to tell him what to do in public settings or on press tours. the only place he feels at home anymore is on the battlefield— he's back in the driver's seat, commanding a team through a fight and doing a damn good job of it. even now, though, he doesn't feel he and the avengers are friends. he's scared to open up— how could they understand? they didn't experience life back then, never drowned in icy water and came back from the dead seventy years later. besides, he doesn't feel any of them are really worthy of his trust. it's going to take time for him to adjust and learn to put his trust in people.likes

- my version of steve has a service dog, fuck you. his name is archie and he's a golden retriever and steve adopted him bc he saw him while he was volunteering at a shelter and he is a VERY good boy.
- steve doesn't just listen to old music. he's always loved music, ALL genres of it, and enjoys 60s/70s classic rock, motown, and even some more modern music and some disney songs. he's not very picky when it comes to music. he loves it all.
- steve is incredibly paranoid, even if he tries not to show it. it comes through in little things— he won't stand with his back to a window; when someone is standing between him and a door, he asks them to move; the first thing he does when he enters a room is to scan it for threats or bugs that are watching or listening to him. after finding his room in avengers tower to be bugged not a week after being relocated from s.h.i.e.l.d., he never trusts anyone not to be secretly recording him.
