☙There are many things that motivate us. But the most powerful motivator of all is fear. Nothing makes us more uncomfortable than fear.❧

Robert Wilson

🐺

Three individuals sat around the flaming campfire as the warmth flooded their bodies, blanketing them from the cold snow that littered the ground and continued to fall from the sky. They waited, passing the time until they became the foulest of beasts. Until they became monsters of the night.

Children of the moon, that was what they were known as. Humans that transform into fearsome wolf-like creatures on the night of the full moon, losing their minds as their bones snapped and shifted into a deadly animal.

Many believed that they were extinct, mainly thanks to the Volturi. Or specifically, Caius Volturi. The angry king of the vampire species made sure that they were annihilated after his encounter with them two thousand years ago. Or so he thought.

But no, they still existed. Lurking in the night, waiting for their time to strike like a viper hunting its prey. Waiting for the perfect moment to enact revenge for the decimation of their species.

Two years ago, the small pack of three heard of the beautiful Queen of the Volturi after finally coming out from hiding. The mate to Caius, Aro, and Marcus. The one that would help them get revenge on their enemies once and for all. After all, how could the kings survive the death of their mate.

"When are we going?" a deep voice broke through the silence, asking a very important question. His dark skin was barely seen in the darkness, only being illuminated by the blazing fire. The man's name was Ambrose Lycus, one of the three remaining lycanthropes in the world.

A man with dark hair and an even darker past answered his question, "the night before the next full moon. When we are at our strongest while in our human forms." This man's name was Damien Spencer. The leader of the three, or alpha if you prefer. He was the strongest, and most fearsome with a long jagged scar covering his face from the top of his right eye to the bottom of his left cheek.

A feminine voice spoke up from the other side of the campfire, "They will pay for what they did to our species. They will all pay." Katerina Volkov was an outrageously gorgeous woman, yet terrifying beyond doubt. She was the last surviving female lycanthrope, the only one to keep the other two in line.

Although they could make more werewolves with a single bite, they decided to wait for the perfect time to strike. For the perfect time to put their plan into motion, and they couldn't do that if they had several disobedient wolves wreaking havoc.

They decided to wait until after they had finished phase one of their plan. Until they had the Queen within their grasp. They planned to take the Queen out of the game and leave the Kings vulnerable.

Ambrose let out a small grunt of pain as the first bone of the night snapped out of place. The full moon had reached its peak in a matter of minutes. It was hanging brightly in the sky, mocking them by taking their humanity away.

They screamed out in pain as one by one, each of their bones shifted in place. Preparing their bodies for the full transformation into a beast. Midnight Black fur sprouted out of Damien's back as Katerina's teeth protruded out of her mouth and Ambrose's claws lengthened to a sharp point out of his finger tips.

After what felt like hours but was only a few minutes, three monstrous beasts stood around the flames of the campfire. Their clothes ripped to shreds on the ground. One after another, they raised their large heads, standing on their hind legs, and let out a vicious howl.

Damien led them away from the fire and into the forest after he lowered his head. His heightened sense of smell and enhanced speed led him to his first meal of the night, a wandering traveller that was unlucky enough to be caught in the middle of the woods on the night of the full moon.

Many miles away, a beautiful brunette sighed as she flipped the page of the book that was in her lap, unknowing of the danger that lies ahead. She smiled at her mates that sat across from her. One was reading another book while another sketched her in his notebook and the last one sipped on a fresh glass of blood. All at peace, peace that wouldn't last forever.
